When people prepare cereal, they either put milk first or cereal first. The reasons that people give for their choice always confused me. Sometimes people will say “I add milk first so that I can add more cereal later” or “I add cereal first so that the cereal will be crunchier” something like that. But isn’t it all the same in the end? Won’t there be the same amount of crunchiness and you’ll still be able to add more cereal later? I don’t get it. The only actual difference I can think of is that the milk might splash everywhere if you pour it first.
I mean, if you prefer to have the cereal completely doused in milk, then you poor it first. If you want to eat it half dry, you do the milk first.
From my own testing, you can get more cereal in if you put the cereal first. Like... if the milk is there first, you'll probably stop putting the cereal at an earlier point due to fear of going overboard. But if you put the cereal first, the milk will just fill up the bowl after you have already chosen the proper amount of cereal. So... Cereal first ends up being optimal because I don't need to refill the cereal multiple times, at least in my view~
If you put the milk in first, the cereal soaks for longer. If you want your cereal to not be completely soggy, you put the milk in second. Well, that's from someone who hates milk and never puts it in cereal, so it might not be the most complete information
That makes sense. Thanks. The cereal won’t become completely soggy just because it soaked a tiny bit longer will it? @Lissi says that it’ll be soggy if you put the milk in first. You say that it’ll be soggier if you put the cereal in first. Which is it…
Just throw a handful of cereal in your mouth, chew and then swallow it down with milk, it works for my chocolate chip cookies.
Its in the texture, sweetie. Also in quantity. Do you like your cereal crunchy? Soggy? If your really good at measuring and timing, even have both. Quantity is more on how much cereal or milk do you want to put. (Obviously)
How does the order of cereal and milk affect the texture? In the end it’s the same thing, cereal and milk.
Pouring milk first is ... cause most cereal float and you'll end up with a milk drink with some cereal toppings. Good morning~
The sogginess of the cereal depended on how long was it in the milk, not by the order of what you were putting into the bowl. Seriously people.
OOh your talking about the order? DANG, i Have to say be wary about the person who said "milk first before cereal" TThat person is a psychopath.... was talking about quantityʕ ಡ ﹏ ಡ ʔ
It depends on the CEREAL! Puffed grain for example (the one that is steam puffed, like rice crispies), don't really float but soak in milk, so if you put the cereal AFTER the milk, you might end up without enough milk! since it was all soaked in by the puffed grain. Flakes in general don't float but they don't absorb milk so readily, so you can do either. Those amalgamations of several cereals (Like froot loops or Cp Crunch, anything that has being processed and churned into an unnatural shape) FLOAT A LOT, so if you put the cereal first, you might end up pushing the cereal out of your plate... ending with not enough cereal! (or not enough milk) So, whoever says it should be done one way or the other, it's because they just eat one kind and they are used to it!!!!
I don't think it matters that much and it is just a preference thing. That being said, cereal is gross anyway, so eat it however you like if it makes it taste better to you
