no, i never got around reading the novel again and a few days ago closed all my tabs accidentally, now i can't remember where i left off

yes it has already ended and although i did not read till the end i skipped to some side stories (? i think) and they were happy and yes he accepted his feelings and also expressed them vividly (which means he probably breaks the curse). he also pays back noel for all her teasing (tho it's been so long that now idk if this is a false story planted in my brain by some archmage lmao)

i posted the spoilers so people would stop accusing rupert of murdering his daughter (bc he never did, no tl bs) but seems like people directly ignored that spoiler lmao. it was wrong of me to post it behind spoiler tag so i'll very clearly spoil it now (since this is a spoiler forum anyway):

*deep breath* *exhale* NO RUPERT DID NOT K WORD HIS DAUGHTER IN ANY TL. NO HE DID NOT FORM ANY ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP WITH ANYONE ELSE EITHER. AS FAR AS I HAVE READ NOEL HAS ALREADY DISCOVERED THAT THERE'S NO OG NOVEL, SHE WAS BEING CONTROLLED HER WHOLE LIFE AND HER MEMORY WAS BEING MANIPULATED BY HER CHILDHOOD FRIEND SINCE A LONG AGO.


if you all need reasons to hate rupert, he gave enough when he left his kid in danger to fulfill his duites as a lord (even tho he did it bc of the curse, but none of you care about the curse so,) he was trying to distance himself from his wife and daughter in the worst possible way as a way to protect them and himself (from guilt) and hurt them badly (emotionally) in the process. you can keep reminiscing just this thing for the entire novel and hate him enough. but don't call him his own daughter's murderer when people have clarified multiple time in this thread that he is not.

as for noel, i believe we began the novel/manhwa with her realizing that she was being controlled, which means she knew from the beginning that she's the og noel, og noel is her, no other soul was there, ever. even in her false planted memories, it was her own self that did all that and met a bad end. she thought she gained memories from her previous life where she read the novel, but later discovered that she was never reborn or reincarnated, it's her only life and she had never read any novel. so even her past actions of harassing people is her pwn responsibility (even tho she was being controlled)

the reason noel is more likable is bc we see her changed self from the very beginning. if we were introduced to her earlier when she was being controlled and neglected her daughter, despised her husband and harassed innocent people, we probably would've bad opinion of her even after she broke free from those restraints.

one such example would be the ml from "i thought it was a common tramsmigration" where we got to know he was under og novel's influence but still had grudges against him after he came out of it bc we witnessed mc getting hurt.

so yeah, where the story began from also affected our opinions on both protagonists. i admit rupert is not exactly likable, and you can keep hating him for what he has done, but at least DON'T HATE HIM FOR WHAT HE DIDN'T DO FFS. he's always making efforts to not get attached to them FOR THEIR SAFETY.

he struggles a lot bc of it later bc he's not allowed to love them when he clearly does. but he's not allowed that feeling, or any feeling at all. he spent his entire life detaching himself from any and all emotions so he never had felt warm before noel taught him that but he couldn't enjoy it. it's very very heartbreaking that he had to try to supress everything but also that very effort is the clear proof that he loves them. arghhhh i'm unable to articulate this so i keep paraphrasing the same thing.

BUT the point is rupert isn't as bad as some people in this thread made him out to be. he's one of the most expressive male leads in this genre, which is ironic considering his curse. unlike those cold iceberg perfect mls typical of medieval setting k-novels, you'll see many humane qualities in rupert. he has humors, he has feelings, he has his own considerations, his own thinking. trust me, i was one of the people who hated him the most in the beginning, the only reason i even read further was to see rupert suffer and get joys of angst. i did get angst, but for different reasons. rupert turned out to be a far better lead than i could have ever imagined. so give him a chance, i promise he'll grown on you and you might end up loving him too

Can I ask how far the manhwa had came compared to the novel? I know Noelle need time to overcome her distrust about Rupert, but I am really craving for sweet romantic heart-warming moments right now.

 

i didn't catch up with the manhwa but romance doesn't really come early even in the novel. there's a lot of communication between them, lots of sexual-tension and many heartwarming moments but they don't become "lovers" until much later.

that's cause of rupert's curse. noel discovers pretty early (or rather she knew from the beginning) that rupert's curse can be lifted by true love and so she tries to seduce rupert (lol). like she can SEE that rupert likes her, he gives her hints every now and then (although never directly tells) and she thought the fastest method to lift his curse would be to make him fall for her. she doesn't tell him that fact in the beginning but when she does he says something along the lines that if love is what makes the curse go away then she would never hear i love you from his mouth (because he's scared. he's already barely controlling himself from killing them cause of how he feels towards them. so he's extremely afraid that him admitting to loving her would be the final straw and he'd end up killing her).

rupert knows he loves her but he'd rather be content with what they have than to have more and harm, or worse, kill her (even tho he does want more. he doesn't want to be just a 'partner' or 'friend' to noel)

doesn't mean there is no romance. there's so much tension between them. but unfortunately they don't act upon it. i didn't read further but apparently when they do become lovers there's a lots of spicy scenes (rupert pays back noel for all the teasing lol).

if the manhwa is now on the "winning back" arc where rupert makes effort to bring noel and leah home, then the very next arc is when rupert starts dropping hints that he wants to be more than just cooperative partner to her. noel picks up the hints almost immediately and tries to seduce him in either that arc itself or the next one

 

What annoys me is that people make spoiler forums their arena for philosophical debates!

it's great that you had posted the spoilers in spoiler tag, it's the best way to differentiate them from the rants and debates. As for ppl skipping them - most ppl don't know how to look for the actual info, others just skip right to the end and comment. And third type? They seem to have the look for only the debates, somehow.

Anyway, it was a shock that the childhood friend is actually the main villain. What a narcissistic sociopath, was gonna add selfish, but that's already part of narcissism. He did look a bit shady, but from all the stories in which the mages were the true friend for MCs - i was hoping for his shadiness to be false.

So the first season of the comic just ended recently. Unlike the book where he apparently never directly says he likes her here she decided to cut through the crap. Tells him to give her an answer about his feelings or she'll never touch him again. He complains she's being unreasonable and too blunt but eventually admits he does. She's happy to know for sure, plans to seduce him, and the narration ominously tells us far in the future she'll find out false memories were planted in her head making her think there's no danger if she has a good relationship with him.

 

While being controlled or not it doesn't justify FL's redemption. I mean she literally never suffered or anything for being soo evil it's the flaw in Korean novels that put FL's on a pedestal and they never experience any suffering there is always a ML supporting them and while ML's are treated like trash even if they didn't do anything wrong and FLs are allowed to read freely while MLs are bound like 2nd ML it's clearly a round about way to cheat what isn't there a 2nd FL in romance for ML for happy endings like a flaw.
In this case this novel is good but FL is trash through and through in past and deserve to be punished severely.

 

I don't get it. If she's being mind controlled and not choosing to be doing these things why does she need redemption?
