The drawings are wonderful and yes, the story itself has more details, which I personally really enjoyed. Regarding the commander-successor question in UTOT, I would like to say that one can imagine who could become the successor (as KsJ already said in Q & A). In my opinion, Riftan shouldn't remain commander for so long, so he doesn't have to go to war anymore and can take care of Maxi (perhaps with offspring?) and Anatole. So, the manhwa has a few years of advantage. Fans have estimated release dates to be around late 2025 or early/mid 2026. This might also be the reason why the manhwa has changed its publication style to continuous without breaks. I believe the anime will likely use a style very similar to the manhwa, with some changes, but that as a base. I'm 100% on board with your opinion about the live-action adaptation. I wouldn't like to see people in cosplay portraying the characters, as is often the case with live actions. I personally prefer a high-quality animation. If I could, I would start the story with Riftan fighting against Sektor, while at the same time an image of Maxi crosses his mind. It's in that moment he promises himself to make it out alive, to find her, and to truly get to know the real Maxi, not just the one he's imagined. All of this would happen as Riftan charges his sword's aura and launches himself towards the dragon. Then, I'd transition to the early parts of the novel, with Maxi's father refusing the divorce and so on. This way, we could avoid people despising Riftan for treating her 'badly' and 'using her only for physical intimacy.' I really can imagine those who haven't read the novel or the manhwa reacting strongly, thinking that Riftan is a sexist that mistreats the poor protagonist... so better find a way to avoid all the controversy.
Do you know who bought the rights to the anime? I don't know any romance anime with passionate physical intimacy. Besides Nana? I know the novel is too detailed for TV but I have never seen an anime that has romance scenes like Under the Oak Tree Manhwa. I think the manhwa has a good balance of not going too far for non mature audiences. I hope the anime is close to the manhwa in the later seasons as the detail is stunning. I'm glad the adaptation will take a couple years to come out as I want to enjoy the comic before the anime. A live production will be really hard to pull off as most live action fantasy isn't very good besides Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. I don't include sci-fi as that is a different genre and vampire shows are sort of it's own genre. I think a live action starting out with Riftan fighting Sektor will be a good start as well! =D It will be an exciting opening to a new show! This can also show the great lengths Riftan has to endure to be reuinted with Maxi. The first chapter of the manhwa was difficult for me to read with the abuse and cringey snu snu. The first chapter just dives into very serious abuse and I wasn't prepared for that when I open a romance comic. I had to give the story another try which I'm really glad I did. The real life conflict is what makes this story captivating. The inner character struggles and real life marriage conflicts and fights are relatable. Haha, the fights are very fun to read. I mean all relationships have fights/arguments. Convincing a studio/producers to have a dragon scene in a pilot episode will be difficult with the budget for a pilot. I guess it would have to be with not much CGI. Doing flashblacks through the show of Riftan's POV will be interesting to watch as Maxi's love for Riftan grows this can coincide with Riftan's backstory. Unless the show has Maxi's narration there should be flasback scenes of her childhood as well to get a full understanding of her character. Her inner monologues and thoughts go in detail of the reasons behind her choices. Doing a season of only Riftan's POV between book 6 and 7 might anger viewers as they don't want the story to stop for a backstory. I wasn't patient to read the side story before book 7 until after 8. I just had to find out Riftan and Maxi being reuinted but I was fortunate that 8 books were released when I started the story. Otherwise I would've read in order. Honestly, I can't tell you which company acquired the rights to produce the animation because I don't know, the news that came out was that the rights had been sold, and that was pretty much it. I completely understand your point about the intimate scenes between the couple being challenging to adapt. There aren't many anime targeted at adults, so I think they might either suggest those scenes or skip them altogether. However, skipping them would be a disappointment because in the first book, the relationship between Riftan and Maxi is very physical. I haven't watched 'Nana', do you recommend it? I was more into 'Sailor Moon', 'Cardcaptor Sakura', and that kind of style. Then I shifted towards shonen, seinen, and shoujo genres. The animation quality for UTOT will entirely depend on the studio behind it. I hope it's a good one because, for instance,'Raeliana' seemed like it would have good animation based on the trailers, but when the actual episodes came out, the animation quality was rather poor. It's different with 'My Happy Marriage'; the animation studio working on it is doing a fantastic job. I don't find a live action adaptation feasible unless it's produced and starred in by Korean or Chinese companies with a sufficient budget. Animation, without a doubt, would be easier, but again, we'd be uncertain about the inclusion of intimate scenes, unless it's an animation studio like the one behind 'Castlevania', where they haven't shied away from gore or adult content scenes. With a studio like that in charge, a high quality animation would be viable, but not necessarily in the traditional anime style, but more in a Western kind of style. I'm rereading the books with the comic and the comic is like an exact replication of the book minus the snu snu details hehe. I'm doing well. Staying cool in this heat. Fortunately, it's under 100 today so the cool weather is a nice break. How are you? I do recommend to watch Nana! I think the English dub is excellent. The show is on Hulu or Netflix. This is a coming of a age, slice of life story of friendships and relationships. I think it's a realistic take on relationships versus other anime like Ouran High School Host Club which is a comedy. I haven't watched a lot of anime except for a handful. Code Geass is my favorite anime. Johnny Yong Bosch does excellent voice acting in the show and I like the deeper message behind the show. The ending of the show is probably one of my favorite endings of any show. I really like Yona of the Dawn but there's only one season of the anime which is a shame. I prefer the sub over the dub for Yona of the Dawn. I've been reading the manga for Yona of the Dawn and it's great! The female lead, Yona, has a similar character arc like Maxi who wants to learn how to fight and protect her people. But Yona had a very happy upringing and was a spoiled brat versus Maxi who was abused and isolated her whole life. The male lead in Yona of the Dawn is not nearly as overprotective as Riftan but he's a GOAT just like Riftan and kicks ass. I have seen Raeliana but I thought the animation was VERY slow pace and the story was also slow. It had beautiful animation but the pacing didn't feel right. I still have yet to watch "My Happy Marriage". I pray that the anime adaptation for Under the Oak Tree will be for an adult audience as it will be a big diservice to the fans if they remove most of the physical initimacy. At least minimum have the manhwa scenes. Either it's in one extreme right? Either we have p**** with no story or we have a romance story taking forever for the characters to just get together and no intimacy. So frustruating. Maybe some people think the physical intimacy is too much in book 1 but that's my favorite part as Riftan is literally bringing Maxi to life and out of her darkness. During the years I have to admit I’ve given in one too many times in reading all the spoilers just to give me that boost of serotonin. UTOT is honestly one of my comfort books. I like to revisit it once in a while to re-familiarize myself with the story. I’m with y’all on wanting the snu snu element of the novel to be implemented in some way in the upcoming anime. It will be a big disservice to us fans not to have it incorporated but I do understand if it’s not possible. I agree with you @Spidey1Fan, the intimate scenes (snu snu) are my favorite parts as well. Even if it’s not conventional or whatever the case , that intimacy literally was the catalyst to our ML’s falling in love. So I’d love to see that .. Spoiler: Chapter:summary 117 Hebaron teasing Riftan on how he looks. Riftan is getting ready for the banquet as the king wants him to go. Riftan is glad he doesn't have to wear pointy shoes. Hebaron and Riftan makes an entrance to the banquet hall and he goes to the table with food and wine and Ursuline is sitting by the table. Riftan stares Richt who is with a cleric. Riftan, Ursuline and Hebaron discuss politics, what Ursuline found out about Richt and Balto, then Riftan again glares at Richt and he sneers him back. Riftan is having so much anger as he wants to fight Richt. Maxi enter in the banquet with her seductive dress and all the mens has eyes on her. Hebaron knows Maxi came to declare a war, Ursuline wants to stop Maxi, Hebaron tells him don't and tells Riftan words of advice of neglect her and that he needs to stop treating her as she is a cage in a bird, she can make her own decisions and with his actions he can loose Maxi, another man can take her away. Riftan breaks his glass of wine as Maxi holds his hands with another man. He is looking at Aren as he wants to kill him. Maxi enters at the banquet hall and she feels embarrassed as 100 Ulyeson are having eyes on her. She dances with Aren and he has his hand on her waist and spinning her around, is her first time dancing as she has never attended a ball or danced, she still has her eyes towards Riftan as she is playing a dangerous game with him, she can see Riftan anger. She stops dancing with Aren as she felt she failed, she can't see Riftan nowhere and holds her tears and wants to go back to her roots. Maxi feels Riftan doesn't hold any affection towards her and kinds feels sorry for playing this foolish game. Aren had fun in all of it but wants to escort back Maxi. Aren was about to get his coat but then he talks to other men, she is going to go back to her room..As she walks to the corridor, Riftan snatches her and grab her waist and hoist her up and tells her, is she trying to make him angry. Maxi really thought she failed her plan but it did actually work and it backfire and Riftan is paying attention to her. Riftan really blew his chance of being Maxi first dance partner and he needs to take notice in this banquet how many mens were having eyes on her and if he still acts the same towards her, a real man will treat her with utter respect and what she really wants in a relationship. Riftan needs to stop being hard-headed and notices that he is about to loose the loves of his life. I sense angry snu snu coming soon.
You're welcome! You wanted to share it, and it didn't cost me anything to do so I have to acknowledge that P does an excellent job with the panel layouts and illustrations. I think I read somewhere in a recent interview that she has some help, probably someone for the backgrounds, which is a common practice in the manga industry. The main illustrator handles the characters, and the assistant takes care of backgrounds, shading, and those sorts of things. Her process for creating each layout is quite fascinating to me, how it evolves from simple lines to a complete composition leaves me amazed. She is super talented. Due to your recommendation, I'm going to check out 'Nana.' It's my boyfriend who watches a lot of slice of life, and sometimes we watch some together. I'm more into romances, comedies, and adventures. I can't watch dramas and sad stuff because I'm too empathetic and start crying right away, haha. Poor thing has had to switch off some anime for me because I can't stop crying, and I think deep down he's afraid I might drown him with my tears . I cry with books, series, movies, and anything in the sad genre. It must be funny to see someone holding a book and crying their eyes out, surrounded by tissues . When he sees me like that, he immediately asks, 'Did you read something sad?' and I reply all teary-eyed, 'Yes, buaaaaaa' I recommend that you read 'Raeliana.' There's a significant difference between the anime and the manhwa. Some things in the anime are improved, like the dance scene, but the manhwa is much better, much much better, and their story is beautiful. That's why they're one of the most lovely and romantic couples in manhwa. I adore Noah; his character is so precious. He's also in the protector/overprotective style, but he's fun, affectionate, and determined. Argh, my 'husbandos' pantheon keeps growing and growing! I love Hak; his confession in the manga was so funny, it's one of my favorite confession panels, hahaha. He's very sweet and protective, not like Riftan who can be a bit overbearing at times! I also watched Code Geass; C.C and Lelouch are one of my favorite couples. I like to think that their ending was a happy one... that's what happens when endings are open to interpretation and the readers' imagination. Although, I do prefer it when the author reveals how the story truly ends because I might imagine a happy ending, and then years later, it's revealed that it wasn't happy at all. I feel betrayed It's great that you were able to introduce your friend to the world of UTOT and have someone close to you to theorize and debate with. That's one of the wonderful things about stories, being able to share them with others! My best friend and I often recommend stories with romantic scenes, but she's not into the world of manhwa. I agree with you, spoilers are my source of comfort too, although I'm making a lot of effort not to reread them while waiting for the books. But I must confess, it's hard to do! I think the implementation of intimate scenes in the animation will be difficult. It's very likely they'll be suggested, but I don't believe they'll be shown. That's usually what happens when these genres are adapted. I totally agree with you about Riftan in armor. There's something about it that catches your attention, and he looks absolutely delicious. It suits him so, so well. I'm familiar with 'Captain Tsubasa.' It's a globally recognized sports anime. They did a remake with more modern animation a few years ago. Maybe you could show it to your parents to reminisce about the good times but now you can share it with them at the same time
All in all a nice idea with the anime, but the animation company will definitely not do it in such detail, it would be too expensive and too long. Because I don't necessarily believe that they will completely animate both volumes. However, as you have read, Riftan has really seen her for a long time as he imagined her to be from a young age. The focus is on the communication between the two. Maxi is very afraid of making any mistakes at the beginning, so she keeps a low profile. Riftan sees what he thinks he understands from their actions or inactions, but doesn't question anything. This is the story as written by KsJ and I think the anime should be done the same way. Because I would like to state one thing, if Maxi hadn't grown up in the second part under the effects of Riftan's distance and coldness towards her and would have withdrawn with her own pain, putting Riftan first if she would ever got back together?? Please don't get me wrong, I like both main characters equally, but mistakes were made on both sides, sometimes ignorantly, sometimes out of stubbornness. That's what makes the story and I would want to see it as animation as well. Maxi is a noble lady from an outstanding lineage, men with the same status will want to have her as a wife if Riftan would let her go. She is young, beautiful, talented mage n healer, brave and with no child yet. How about that Riftan? Losing the girl u dream of since u were very young, the source of light and happiness in your sad, lonely life to another man? Ursuline is so protective towards Maxi though. Sejour Aren is a true gentleman. He noticed Riftan is murderously staring at him and he can still keep calm and dance with Maxi. And Riftan is burninggggg. Im praying for Maxi

She was all doing to get her hubby attention and she only wants to have a love affair with Riftan. Riftan believes she is retaliating back him, it was really working on him, but why she didn't chose another option than this.

I've been enjoying the last few pages of the discussion about the anime. I'm so happy to hear it's moving along. I really hope it is done well and does the novel and the author justice. I really like How to Win My Husband Over as well. UTOT and that story are ones that I reread. However I wanted to ask where you all found the complete novel to How to Win my husband? On webnovel it stopped at a certain chapter and has not been updated in a long time. I really want to finish reading it. I was thinking the other day about webtoons with this type of story plot. The one where the ML and FL are forced into a marriage and then fall in love. Personally, that's one of my favorite story tropes and I can read it over and over again. But I was thinking about why utot is so different from the rest and makes it so compelling. I know the realiatic scenarios and character trauma and development are a big reason. But I also think, for me at least, it's because most of the stories I've read, the two characters enter into some sort of marriage contract where both know about it and are in agreement. They don't expect anything from each other other than appearances and certain benefits and they sometimes set a timeline meaning they want no emotional attachment so they can end it. But of course because its romance, they just so happen to fall in love by accident and slowly over time. In UTOT, both parties did not talk it over, it was forced on them, but then they treat it as a real marriage from the very beginning and move forward together. How to win my husband is very similar, at least on Rubys end before Izak caves. Idk if that makes sense but there's just something a little extra romantic about it for me. I've been looking for animes like this and I can't find any. Most of the romantic animes I've seen are of the two slowly coming to like each other then dating either towards the middle or end of the series. In any anime where the couple enter a contract marriage or are forced to stay together, they don't start acting like a couple until later. And even when they do act like couples sometimes it's very unrealistic. There is only one anime I saw about marriage but it happened in the second season and it was more comedy and slice of life than it was romance. Marriage animes are very rare and they are usually comedic I think. At least the ones I've seen. I've been enjoying the My Happy Marriage anime, but again their relationship is moving at a snail pace. I knew this from reading the novel and I still enjoy it, but in UTOT, Rif makes sure they jump right into it and start experiencing what marriage life is like. That's what I would like to see more of. Anyways, I really hope this anime captures what makes it so special by showing their true marriage and how they both grow from it together as a couple. I also hope it promotes more animes like this to be created. I'd love to see How to Win My Husband Over, Lucia, and Princess Shu turned into an anime.
Spoiler Maxi wearing a white dress on the banquet and Rem is a full white horse. Riftan wearing full black in the banquet and Talon is full black horse, I find it quite ironic. The color black suits Riftan, I remember reading in a Q&A by KSJ that Riftan favorite colors are deep, such as blue, black and I think red. I know for Maxi green tends to suit her.
