That's why the cut scenes are so important. We can see Emiliano isn't perfect because he is selfish and stupid with his actions. We can also see Carcel is caring and actually makes Ines happy. In many case, lines where Ines always said Carcel is a good guy also proves that Ines did not hate Carcel from the beginning even though she did slapped him after he kissed her. She never thought negatively of him. Many times, she would say in her mind that he's an easygoing guy, a good-natured guy, a person who is too soft, too much of a pushover. All these lines were cut until the most recent manhwa chapters she somehow thought he's good... Let's also not forget how in the manhwa she views being promiscuous or playboy as negative whereas in the novel, she never did. She calls Carcel a playboy/womanizer but to her it was more of stating a fact than saying something negative. The manhwa turns it negative. Ines in the novel is very pragmatic about things so she's not daunted by his sleeping around when she knew the nation is full of promiscuous people but the manhwa also cut that out. It was mentioned once in Carcel's POV in the beginning of the manhwa but never brought up again that I see ridiculous assumption that Ines doesn't have has much freedom to sleep around as Carcel because she would have her reputation killed as a woman. This assumption would've been proven false if people see even Marchioness Barca, the empress, or other women also freely sleep around. Even during the wedding, it was mentioned that their culture don't care about virgin brides anymore. They only care about if they consummate the marriage or not during the wedding night.

I actually saw a very ridiculous Korean review on Ridibooks. This person did not even know Carcel is not Oscar. They called Oscar and Carcel namju as if they're the same person.

tbh i can’t blame them for this cuz if i remember correctly they cut some of the lines when ines was saying she had someone in the past too and she was not a “pure” person or wtv when she was half asleep. i remember she also said carcel must notice that already during their night activities or smt. i don’t remember the exact lines but it was not the same in manhwa and if you didn’t read the novel it’s quite confusing how carcel got there and who is he talking abt so they kinda right imo :bloborz: it made sense in the novel cuz they TALKED abt it. how cutting lines gonna help if ppl don’t understand things like they don’t TALK and ur not explaining things as a storyteller so ppl just start making shit up lmao. anyways i mean i know there are ppl still don’t understand things even the point is right there but in this case i don’t think it’s like that:bloborz:

I don't even believe how she said she is a big fan of the novel now. She cuts where she wants and put the lines where she feels like, so when Carcel's character is kinda solid (but more idiotic comedy like), Ines' character is just a mess. It's like from an aloof, depressed woman turned into a suddenly fell in love woman.

Does anyone know if the extra stories will be adapted into the manhwa??? I'm asking because I know that some extra novel stories are adapted and others are not. I particularly wanted the extra stories from The Broken Ring to be adapted.

In this case, I think it's a mix of storytelling cutting things out and people just not wanting to read. Even back when chapter 11 had those lines, we still get people who forgot about it and assume Carcel killed Emiliano or helped kill him. But at least even if they forgot or didn't read carefully, we can't say the storyteller was at fault there when they can't read. At least in that situation, others who do read can pull up those lines from the manhwa to prove those who don't read wrong. If the storyteller just chose to remove those lines, people who do understand the story can't even do that. Everything is just up in the airs. Everyone is free to assume as they pleased because it was never mentioned.

But then again I can't say the storyteller is not without faults either because it's obvious the lines she chooses to cut can lead to more misunderstandings. It also can't be a coincidence that almost every chapter with Emiliano, somehow makes him a focus somehow. Doing it once can be just taken as a poor choice but doing it every single time, we can clearly now see her bias.

I also agree I don't think she really is a big fan of the novel. She's probably only saying it for promotional value. If she was a fan, she wouldn't be watering down the main plot which is the romance between Ines and Carcel so much. She would've also read the author's Q&As and understand the feelings behind the character instead of just doing as she pleases.

Here is the latest bias. You heard us talk of the way Tappytoon’s novel translator uses negative words with things associated to Carcel. By now I’m so tired of the pattern that I was very pissed off today when I emailed them. In the original text below, the author uses ocean metaphors to describe Ines’s feelings about the way she keeps inevitably sinking into the tranquility of her married life when she wants to fight against this because of her goal. See Tappytoon negative take on this.
Ines had glided effortlessly through these routines of her married life. But now, she had to admit that she had been secretly relishing the sense of stability and calm these routines had granted her.

In any case, she shouldn't have let her guard down like that. The more she struggled to avoid drowning in the endless waves of nightmare, the deeper she sank into darkness. Also, she could no longer deny that she had mistaken the temporary sense of tranquility for something real.

This is @NohrNeir translation which is exactly like the MTL of the original raw text:
Everything in this marriage flowed repeatedly like waves rolling in and out again.

    Every day, every moment.

She floated for a while on the calm surface, as if her body floated above the water when she relaxed her limbs. Now she couldn’t help but admit that such a relaxed feeling was too good for her. The more she struggled not to sink back under the surface of the water, the more she could not deny her body had plunged into the water.

At this rate, she would end up mistaking the temporary sense of stability.
Where in the direct translation above warrants words like “waves of endless nightmares that cause her to sink into darkness” when Ines is simply talking about being overwhelmed by the tranquility of life and/or struggle not to be complacent. How does that translate into nightmare and darkness. I told @NohrNeir that it’s like saying someone can be beaten to death by a feather. How is unwanted tranquility a strongly negative state akin to darkness/nightmare? It’s well established that the author uses ocean metaphors to describe various things in the OTP’s relationship but here the translator is taking the metaphor and turning it into something evil/dark/ominous.

This is the kind of translation bias we’ve been fighting against for months by emailing Tappytoon and presenting the original text with accompanying arguments.

So I worked on a chain to showcase all the times that Ines laughed/smiled around Carcel before Raul and Ines had that conversation.

    https://twitter.com/ohnyoooooo/status/1715576843468743129

This is because the manhwa wouldn't show the progression well.

Edit: I noticed I made a Korean typo hours later but it's fine... Message is still conveyed.

So ines isn't the most beautiful woman in their world is she? Because I read somewhere that her status and elegance played a huge side alongside her looks to build up a strong reputation during her crown princess era but her looks alone couldn't have had a "carcel influence" on others.

She's not. Carcel is described as the most handsome man in the world and having a god-given appearance that can be said even other nations will find attractive. Ines is described as beautiful but not insanely so. She is attractive but in terms of her own words and from what can be taken from how others treat her, she's only very gorgeous when wearing make up, but without, she's not that gorgeous. She does, however, have a very attractive body and she knows that herself so that's why she hid it before to make Carcel not gain any interest in her. Even Alicia described her body as one that can attract men like a "whore" so Ines' body is sexy. Like what the shopkeeper even said, she doesn't have an out of the world beauty even though she is beautiful. The people who call her the most beautiful are ones who are just bias like Carcel and Emiliano. Others can see her objectively as just beautiful but not the most beautiful woman in the world.

It's mostly her status and appearance together that allowed her to have a strong reputation as a princess before. Her father spoiled her so she was always given the best of every fashion. She was a fashion statement. That was what they meant by appearance because she wore things that looked good on her and spread the trends that way. Even in this lifetime, she will do the same and it is mostly because of her status. She went to Mendoza wearing wide-brim hats and the ladies around her were curious about it. During Carcel's promotion, Ines wore a white dress with flowers and a blue ribbon to represent the navy. The flowers became a trend after that and the nation supported the navy heavily as well. So when they talk about her appearance, it's not purely because of her beauty but just how she used fashion to gain ground.

As for manhwa readers calling her beautiful, that's just based on the art and the artist's favorite character is Ines so it's no surprise that she's the one drawn most beautiful whereas almost every other women in the manhwa were drawn plain.

So it's safe to say that the manwha is misleading even in that part and tbh I hate it when the characters are drawn the most beautiful just because they're the leads like lead characters don't necessarily have to be the prettiest

Yupp, @Celebrianna even did a collage before of most of the side characters and they're all drawn so silly and plain... I really wished they would've looked normal or attractive.
There's too many biases in the illustration. In the novel, it was said that the women Carcel had met before in Mendoza were all beautiful, yet the two we've seen in the beginning look so plain that I remember seeing manhwa readers making fun of them for daring to talk badly about Ines' appearance (when she's drawn so pretty). To be fair, those rumors existed because Ines dressed in black clothes and tried to look plain so that Carcel wouldn't be interested in her when compared to the other women in Mendoza who were attractive and tried to look attractive. The women in Calztela were noted to not to be as pretty as the women in Mendoza so Ines had a difficult time trying to find women to attract Carcel, but even so, why draw the two women he was with in the beginning so plain? Even Juana, Ines' maid looked very plain but in the novel she was such a femme fatale. She dates around very openly, very passionate, loves muscular men and chases after thim openly, openly flirts with many men at once, etc.

Manhwa is drawn for Ines. There are more hotter men around her than women. The only other pretty woman is Maria but I see more option for men that aren't ugly like the painter, all those duke sons, Oscar he not attractive for what he did but he looked better than the side characters, Raul. If there can be hot men around Ines, I don't see why there can't be more hot women :blobhero:

Juana is my fave character beside the mains in the novel so I hope they don't kill her character in Mendoza. Raul got the storyteller to save his looks but Juana got no one :blob_teary:

I can't thank you enough for this bc I didn't notice how many times she actually laugh or smile with Carcel in the novel :blobdoggoheart::blobdoggoheart::blobdoggoheart: This was more than I remember :notlikemeow:

I finally tweeted on this so people can be aware of the crappy translation they’re getting. They even increased the price of the chapters to 300 points from 200 points.

I feel like Ines is beautiful but her character design is quite simple, it would be very easy to draw other even more beautiful women but the artist refuses to dedicate more time to other characters. Even Maria was drawn kinda pretty in her introduction but at the party she looks weird. I think having someone who only made fan art making the manwha totally backfired. The story is way too complex for someone without previous experience. I mean.. character design is so so hard, so it's understandable but still they could at least make the effort :blobunamused: And let's not talk about CHOKAM who didn't even read the novel before working on the project :meowknife: Everything about the manwha adaptation and the novel translation makes me so so mad, was it that hard to get people who love the novel or at the very least respect the source material??? :blob_catflip:

Thats why whenever someone ask me what chapter in the novel they should start after reading the manhwa, I never tell them the chapter but instead make them read the story starting Chapter 1:love::rolleyes:

I do notice that more people are actually siding with Carcel and pointing out why “he who shall not be named” is never meant to be a part of Ines’s life. Its sickening how they put so much thought into that person’s story when he aint even that relevant to the main plot. It’s surprising that I’m not seeing much about Oscar when he plays such significant role in Ines’s life and Carcel’s life(in a traumatizing way ofc). As much as I hate Oscar, he NEEDS to be mentioned more often than “he who shall not be named”. I wont be surprised if the author won’t acknowledge the manhwa as a “part” of her work because of how awful they adapted such a beautifully written novel.

Author-nim mentioned on her blog how some manhwa readers tried to defame her that her novel only got known because of the manhwa to which she refuted that she already had good sales before the manhwa came out. BR also won awards several times on Ridibooks so those people are just ignorant and seem to only read from KKP.

I do agree that they should show Oscar more. The dream of him is coming up soon so we'll get that after Carcel's confession in the next chapter.

On another side note, I'm trying to tweet more to bring awareness on what the manhwa keeps lacking:
    https://twitter.com/ohnyoooooo/status/1718117609470673318

In one of the latest chapters, I remember @Celebrianna brought this up so my thread is in response to that- manhwa cutting out how Ines admit Carcel made her think of Raul and Juana in the past.
