That moment of sadness, if I remember correctly was about Riftan’s illusion or hallucination of maxi starting back when he was a mercenary & on the dragon campaign. The visual was used to protect the mind from the monsters attack. Unbeknownst to Ruth, Riftan always conjured up that image of maxi when she was young. I think it’s hard to perceive for Rif, to know that he’s actually married to the love of his life. That the “unreachable” dreams he had when he was young became a reality. Very beautiful scene He’s still very passionate about maxi. He does tend to mix/confuse intimacy with affection quite a lot He has the rest of his life to differentiate the two . I don’t like that innocent civilians had to pay for the dukes horrible actions. Hopefully they leave his ass or wait until he dies. Or hope for someone worthier than that old decrepit man to take his place. For what comes next, (without spoiling it) infuriates me . Bc that bad blood between Riftan and the duke is still bitter as ever.Their stay at the Duchy won’t be so smooth sailing. It would be easier to invade the duchy as it has gotten weaker but this will break the treaty of the seven kingdoms. Our mans Riftan is working hard to keep it together. He doesn’t want another war , specially back to back to the one they’re on. They all deserve peace after so much death & time apart. Anatol needs their lord & lady back .
@emdl07 I can understand you well, even though I haven't read the novel yet, just the manhwa. Luckily, our feelings and tastes are different, so we can decide whether we like a novel or not. I already imagined something like this, that the story would develop like this. And I agree with you about Riftan. Thanks Marsea for today’s update! I think the reason Riftan looked at Maxi with a sad or solemn face when they went to horseriding in the winter in Anatol is because he was afraid that what he sees in front of him - the visual of Maxi smiling happily and touching the falling snow was all an illusion and that she’s not real and she might disappear anytime soon when he wakes up from his illusion. That is why at that time he immediately want them to return to the castle because he’s having difficulties to believe the beautiful scenery right in front of him is real. So whatever Riftan told the reason to her in today’s chapter is correct - she is so beautiful like an illusion but he didnt tell her he has been illusioning about her since they were very young and that he’s afraid she will disappear like an illusion. Urgh pardon my grammatical errors, English is not my 1st lamguage.

I read the manhwa, but I must admit that I don't like it. It portrays such low selfesteem from the FL, so much trauma, nauseating cockiness from the aristocrats, and cruel indifference from the ML that I feel uncomfortable. I'm not drawn to this kind of story for personal reasons. So, I don't know if I should or should not read the novel. We are nearing 1000 pages again, for the fourth time in a row. Let's hope this time we can keep them!

I enjoyed this chapter immensely! I was pleasantly taken by surprise when Maxi finally asked Riftan about the way he looked at her during that snowy ride. This unexpected discussion brought me great joy. Reading the reactions and gifs from other readers was so heartwearming and cheerful in the comment section on Webnovel. Spoiler: Summary of 141 Maxi passes through the town there's no street vendors, and most shops were empty as the town stood empty. Maxi looks at both sides of the roads and many of the houses were empty. Ruth is glad of being spared of camping. Half of those empty houses cam accommodate an army of a thousand. The army stopped marching and to speak with an innkeeper and she saw Ursuline speaking to a wealthy man and the negotiation went well as the servants took the horses to their stables. The RDKs are going to lodge in the for the night. The others knights will lodge another inn up north of the town and the soliders are going to lodge in the empty houses. Maxi goes into the tavern in the first floor is spacious that it can accommodate 100 people but there were fewer than 10. Maxi glanced of the people drinking, gambling and eating, the barmaid sends her at the top of the floor of a spacious room that the wealthy of merchants and nobles can afford. Maxi looks around the furnish room and ask the barmaid if she gets many visitors? She explains to Maxi that few years ago many flocked to the village to buy wheat, wine and wool and that all changed when people stopped coming and they had half of the usual number this year. Merchants are charged hight takes to sell their products in the duchy, compare to other regions and if the maid were merchant she would also take her business somewhere else. Maxi realizes she is criticizing the policy of a noble and decides to change the topic, she wants to take a bath as she is filthy for having a long ride, but taking a bath requires a fee, and she pays two coins for a hot bath. Maxi looks at the window at the village and the empty square was full of wagons and soliders and the soliders seemed happy to be in a walled settlement than worry of getting ambushed. The barmaid returns and unfortunately she is sorry that her bath has to wait for a while and she should go downstairs and dine. Maxi goes downstairs and Riftan see Maxi and he smiles and he was going to send for her, he pull a chair for her and she sits down and eats and she didn't eat her food with table etiquette. Riftan watches her eating and that she needs to slow down or she will have an upset stomach. She wants Riftan to have some food but he has eaten that she doesn't need to worry of him and he cuts her ham in bit pieces. Hebaron teases Riftan and wants to be treated like Maxi and Riftan wants his mouth to be shut and she feels bad that others would think less of her because of Riftan. She can eat her own meal that he doesn't need to fuss and needs to eat his own meal. Riftan gives Hebaron a murderous glare. The tavern got quiet as a wealthy man came inside with 4 soliders and was looking for Riftan. What this man had business with Riftan and he reals his name as Hedna Borman and is the town administrator. The territory is the the Duke Of Croyso and he once declare a war to the duchy and they won't have the RDKS In their land and suggest to take his knights and leave. Maxi was stunned with his words and glared at the man and Riftan was a knight send to the Eastern regions to save the crisis. Maxi was ashamed of her father brazenly. Riftan tells the town administrator is that he is aware that the duke sent a military aid from the county of the Seven kingdoms? Riftan is the supreme commander of the coalition army sent by the Council and will have them look this insolence and that they need to be out of their sight. The rest of the coalition army can say except the RDKs. Hebaron speaks and he is trying to chase the RDKs with 4 soliders. Threatening a free citizen is against the peace agreement. Riftan is there by the order of the Council they are defying a royal decree. He is the duke vassal and would face his wrath if he allowed them to stay. Hebaron angry slams with his beer at the table and the town administrator is just whining and they will be out of the town once is morning and he needs to stop grouching and go to sleep. As he already has told Riftan, he isn't welcome in the duchy, he dare to rob their food as what Anatol did to that place, it isn't a secret that the RDKs hold a grudge against the duke and for the safety of the inhabitants. Riftan with an icy voice, explains him, that he paid the food that all are eating and what he is really accusing of when his estate hasn't done anything unlawful against the duchy and lastly him and his men wouldn't harm an innocent person without reason. This man is making him to hurt him right know without reason. Half of the empty houses that Maxi is many of the inhabitants that flocked to Anatol. With the duke charging higher taxes of course people would move out as all the money goes to the taxes and many can't even put food on the table for their family or buy grains for their animals. In the past they couldn't leave but once Riftan made Anatol prosperous many move out to Anatol and maybe other towns. The town administrator doesn't fulfill his objective, the duke can do something to him or his family as we have seen it in the past if it didn't went according to plan just at what he did to Riftan father. Maxi is always embarrassed of her father brazness and kind of rude of his part as he asked he needed help in his duchy but just want to turn away who is willing to help you. Riftan could've reject the offer of helping the east region but he decided to accept as the Council chose him, others wouldn't do what Riftan would, they would just let the duchy be trampled down and be in disarray. The barmaid charging Maxi for a bath, I can understand why is she charging as they don't get more people how they use to in their business and need a way to survive but also if you charge for everything people would see it as being robbed and won't return again. Hebaron was furious and Riftan was at his limit with the town administrator and just felt to fight him, Maxi felt chill as she knows when Riftan talks in a calm voice is when he is furious.

It's typical of the Duke that he denies the RDKs everything because he has a strong grudge against Riftan, this stupid and hard-hearted old man. But Riftan doesn't let himself be deterred and Maxi gets angry too (next time, I think). We will see. @IraHera, I agree with you, the old Duke still gets what he deserves. Petty old man. The continent is in a state of war (back to back) and the duke can’t let go of old grievances for the sake of the seven kingdoms. War doesn’t care for your feelings. Those monsters will kill anything to ultimately get what they want. It’s infuriating Bc the rdk do so much, Riftan puts so much effort into keeping the peace. Like give him a break. Rif needs at the very least a few years of peace and calm to spend with maxi back in Anatol just enjoying life with each other. I loved maxi defending her ppl!! Thanks Marsea for today’s update! They finally reached Croyso duchy and have no choice but the spend the night there. Croyso duchy is Maxi’s birthplace but she doesnt hold dear to it because it leaves bad memories for her. It must be painful for her, normally we cherish our birthplace and the place with spend our childhood years in but not for her. For me my birthplace or hometown will always have a special place in my heart wherever I go and i always yearn to return there. While Maxi doesnt even want to think about Croyso duchy and she is only there because of the expedition. She only feel sorry for the civilians which are having tough time living there and that’s all. Hebaron is so funny! I laughed when he jokingly told Riftan to reorganize the order of RDK because Riftan is treating the new RDK wizard (Maxi) with utmost respect and kindness. I always find him amusing and whatever comes out from his mouth is entertainment. And the audacity of those duke chair’s soldiers to chase RDK out from the inn!? As Riftan said they dont stay there for free, he paid everything for it, and they were dispatched by the 7 Kingdoms council as the reinforcement requested by the duke himself, yet he still want RDK and Riftan as the Allied Forces commander to get out from his duchy? What an ungrateful shameless stupid douchebag. Excuse my bad language i just cant fathom the duke’s stupidity.
