I doubt he is for the peace of the continent of Roviden as he loves to fight and will sacrifice many of his men's. Riftan is going through alot than Maxi leaving, he should've stayed and support him as he needs assurance from his wife. Riftan must feel of what Maxi must have felt due to her past scars and makes him angry and wants to kill the duke make him pay all the damage he has done to her. The Duke will get what he reaped.
The two of them go through quite a change because they love and want to understand each other. I think that's great and they're doing it well and will do even better in the future. Spidey, KSJ left it open that Riftan says that he was the one who saved her from the monster back when she was a child. He doesn't have to tell her everything, just as she certainly doesn't have to tell him about all the pain her father caused her. Riftan can imagine it that way too. But they open up to each other more and more and that's the great thing about it. And because of the Duke, scars (specially Maxi ), yes, but they heal each other with their love and learn to deal with them better. Then again like Ruth said Agnes has no true understanding of other peoples' feelings. Do you think when King Reuben sent dresses to Maxi for the ball was an apology for his mockery or just to get Riftan on his good side again? King Reuben and Sidnia played crucial roles in brining Maxi and Riftan closer once more.
I think it was to say "sorry" of mocking Maxi miscarriage and for that reason he earned the irk of Riftan as he holds a grudge against him.

Riftan turns around and looks at his wife as she was feeding Rem and Elliot wanted help his lady as Maxi is stubborn refuse and Riftan runs towards them. Riftan is going to train Maxi and let's Elliot to take care of her horse as she was adamant first, but then Riftan regretting of saying that to her as he saw dark circles under her eyes but saw how excited she was of Riftan training her. Riftan has patience of training her in swordsmanship but she doesn't get right her reflexes. Maxi wants to be useful for Riftan as she feels her talents are menial. Riftan assures her that healing and setting barriers aren't menial tasks and what about the promise she made to him. He just training her whenever she is in front of danger not to fight along with him in the battlefield. While Maxi is struggling with her reflexes and posture Riftan gets turned on. Maxi shouts at him that she wants to help her husband as a wife. She wants to help Riftan and is a good thing but also with the skills she has she is still helping Riftan, she still feels she is isn't good enough. After Riftan was training her it got hot and spicy and Riftan couldn't control himself anymore and just want to act now with Maxi.

He can see that Maxi rather die than show her weakness and it surprises him that she maintained a noble pride despite years of abuse from her father. Maxi wants to help but then she refuses to receive help, it isn't a shame for a mage to receive a knight's protection and as a member of the order she needs to learn to work with other's. Riftan can see Maxi was not pleased but understood his point. Now he wants to go back to camp and Maxi says, "already". Riftan who have been observing the fight and things don't look good. They are trying to scale the siege with ladders but they loose soliders, they are going to continue their discussion in the main camp and Sir Derek will give the full report. It the first time we have Riftan pov on having snu snu with Maxi. Loves how he describes her whole body as a man who is madly in love. Maxi has rely everything on herself but it is okay to ask for help and asking for help isn't a form of weakness. Riftan wasn't going to go full on her and Maxi wasn't going to go until she had it and Riftan gave in and Maxi really wanted Riftan, I believe Riftan hearing those words come from her mouth made him ecstatic. Riftan really wants to unleash all his desires on Maxi and he just wish this war already over so he can unleash it all. Now they reached the northeast of the duchy a battle might unfold and Maxi might meet someone from her past as Sir Derek is a vassal knight to her father. I believe he is the knight that is loyal to her father.

I have been so busy lately that i havent got the chance to comment for a few chapters back, but finding a bit of time to comment on this one What i love about this chapter is Riftan advising Maxi on how to be a good teamplayer. Exactly like a boss to a subordinate. Maxi is a bit too proud to accept help from the knights and she thinks that receiving help means weakness, which is not true. Being in RDK and in a team means willing to receiving and giving help, the knights and Ruth are always willing to reach out for her and assist her. And Riftan dislikes it that she recklessly sacrificing herself in order to help others. Maxi was about to talk back in disagreement to him but when his words sink in she accept his advice and i really love that they communicate, understand and agree with acceptance. This was a rare occasion in their marriage because they tend to be stubborn to each other before this. The make out session was hot but once again the circumstances is not suitable for them to do more. Poor couple need to be patience and settle with that. And i think it’s cute of Maxi to sulkily mad at Riftan “u started it first” when he stopped what he was doing to her
