Throughout the journey all of the duke vassals looked contempt at Riftan. Maxi was all confidence and refined once she entered the tent. Maxi studied the man and she was sure she has seen that knight plenty times at Croyso. The knight calls her by her first name and it's a while he has seen her and has heard she became a mage but didn’t expect to find her in that place. Riftan corrects the knight and Maxi is addressed by "Lady Calypse". Sir Derek apologies to Maxi on how he addressed her. The knight ordered his subordinates some seats so they can sit down and Maxi sat next to Riftan. He was far too ples3d but it was better to have her by his side than have her toiling outside. Riftan turns to Derek and had received reports on he has breached the walls instead of using another method. His orders was to reclaim the city and that method was his last resort, and are devising a strategy to breach the gates without compromising the walls. Sir Derek explains what has all happened to the inhabitants with the monsters and what he has done. Riftan wants to know why so many undead in the city and were rhe dead bodies buried without burial rites. Sir Derek informs Riftan that the lower class doesn't afford ceremonial rites and have been burying them in secret and have been doing them for years. Ursuline astonished that the city custodian allow many bodies unpurified under his noses. Sir Derek had to do it if other events happen. Riftan tells how should've been done. Sir Derek tells him what will happen if he goes with his plan and once they are the city would become defenseless. Riftan recognized the knight concern, and resigned with a sigh. Will infiltrate the city without compromising the walls. Maxi notices unlike all other knights of the duchy, he was the one who didn't show hostility against Riftan. Then Derek tells Maxi that her father health is failing. Maxi was dumbfounded of him sharing this news. She questions him of why he is telling her that and does he realize she has had a bad blood with her father. Derek explains her about the inheritance and the duke will leave the whole inheritance to Rosetta second heir but if she were to have none, it will go to Maxi as she is the firstborn. Sir Derek explains more of inheritance rights. Maxi was going to tell him she isn't interested in the inheritance but she would use it for her advantage, so many of the duke vassals would treat Riftan with more respect. She could prevent the duke from cutting off the coalition supplies. She can envision her father rage once he learns that Maxi acted presumptuosly. This could alienate her and those who who supported her sister, and she had social networks since the age of fourteen, Rosetta had the most advantage above her. After deliberating to herself, she tells him, it isn't an appropriate matter to discuss such matters. Maxi noticed Riftan expression and she wishes she could reassure him, he couldn't think that Maxi wants the duchy when she already has Anatol, she didn't want her father knights to overhear. Riftan doesn't know what she is up to but doesn't want Maxi to get involved in the duchy affairs. Riftan doesn't need to worry as she wouldn't do anything dangerous. Riftan wants to know what Maxi is planning but then Ruth hollers and needed help. It was the perfect excuse of not be interrogated by Riftan so she hurries to find Ruth. He was in the field hospital, he was tending the wounded and others healers were helping. As soon she entered inside she directed her attention on the soldiers being carried by stretchers. They needed more healers, and they're first priority are the ones with critical condition so they can save many as possible.

The duke is reaping what he sowed. Maxi isn't interested of the inheritance as she was not treated well by the hands of her father. She has a place where she feels is home and belongs. If she were to inherit she and with the help of Riftan could change Croyso but that means have to go back and forth to Anatol and Croyso. Rosetta already has an heir and the duke said that his inheritance would go to her second son. What if Rosetta second heir is a girl would he still give her the inheritance? Even her character is side but I believe her character fits to have sons than daughters. Riftan wants the revenge to himself and knows to well that Maxi can act recklessly without thinking. Maxi was relief that Ruth was crying for her as she didn't want to answer Riftan interrogation. Maxi acting like a leader once she is in the field hospital helping the wounded soliders.

Hola, hello, halo. Como estas usted? How are you? Wie geht's? @MARSEA12, countless thank you for the spoilers, mate. Oo, by the way, I know that some or perhaps most of you would be disagree with me when I conclude that Riftan's physical apperances are similar to Ishakan's from Predatory Marriage. Their past meeting with their spouses, Maxi and Leah is well in my opinion a bit similar, too. Both women might have apparently forgotten that they have encountered their men, before. Predatory Marriage snusnu and smut scenes are more intense. I also love Ishakan and Leah chemistry and relationship. I wanna award both Riftan and Ishakan, a best husband award.

I've been pondering the same thing lately. Is this level of sensitivity common in the Kwebnovel community? You should see the hate Matthias from CEBIUB is getting online. People are comparing him to Ramsay Bolton.

Maxi goes in the infirmary to heal patients but can't heal all them with magic and some patients won't make it. Some soliders will become disabled. She goes to Ruth and tells him about the inheritance and what is her strategic plan of the inheritance. The strategic plan it isn't a bad that Maxi has in mind and Ruth explains her of who gets the inheritance and as a firstborn she has alot to say in it. Maxi is disinterested of inheriting the inheritance as she just wants to use it to get supplies and she believes Rosetta has a big following and it many will side her and it will go to her male heir to inherit the duchy. Ruth explains to Maxi, Riftan has status and many won't go against him and her being Riftan wife, many could side with her for the inheritance. Maxi goes where Riftan is but he is in a strategic meeting with Sir Derek and wants to tell her of her plan but then goes to the tent and slept. Maxi wakes up the next day and greets Riftan and that Riftan didn't came in to the tent or slept all day. Ruth tells her that Riftan already has the plan and for Maxi it was too quick. Ruth explains to her they have been behind as princess Agnes and Aren have free 3 castles and they have just free one and his next to free from monsters and ghouls is Midna. Ruth explains her of the barrier before the dragon campaign and it play a crucial role during the dragon campaign. Maxi wants to know the details and what was the crucial role that the barrier played in the dragon campaign.

Maxi is having a rough day healing the soliders as many won't make it through the day and she can't some with magic and if she cures other soliders without magic, they will get healed,, but will be disabled and it will the end of their military career. Maxi doesn't pity her father as he doesn't have long to live but she just wants to use the inheritance to gain supplies and vassals support. The inheritance can go to a male relative with Roemian blood or the king as he has no son to solidify it. As she is the firstborn she can have alot to say, yeah if Maxi had a son, he would solidify the inheritance but what if she had a daughter will she solidify it or will it go to a male relative or back to the king? The duke has already decided that Rosetta second son will inherit the whole duchy, it seems he has already made the will. Max is disinterested of the inheritance as she doesn't want to get into a taxing battle and why would she be as her father did alot to damage to her and Riftan and she has Anatol and her own source of income as a mage and she is happy in Anatol. Riftan is very cautious when in planning to free a city and doesn't rush it and can make a plan in a day. Maxi already remember of the specifics but she wants to know the details how Riftan defeated Sektor.

When a manhwa comes out there will be haters like that. Broken Ring thread used to get a bunch of Carcel haters when manhwa came out. Lucky for us, fantler got novel to fite against them. Imo Matthias not that good a guy to be defended so the only thing he got is Leyla's love but his actions still bad. Carcel don't deserve the hate when he treat Ines so good. But Maxi don't deserve the hate. What she ever do wrong?

    @marsea
Thanks for the spoiler you posted for us.:blobrose:
And please don't take these "hate writers" seriously. They have problems with themselves that they cannot solve and try to blame others (even fictional characters!) for their dilemma. Very sad these people.

The new manhwa chapter last Saturday was good. Ruth would to show and teach Maxi the most important things about Magic.:blobwitch:(y)

Did you read CEBIUB on FTL or Yonder? The FTL did Matthias dirty. The fan translation had Matthias slap Layla while in the official English translation he never slaps Layla. The style of the book is "literary fiction" so it's difficult to translate as the writing has a lot of metaphors and difficult narration to understand. I compared the two translations and there are missing parts and added parts not supposed to be there. It was a different experience for me when I read on Yonder.

The outdoor bath chapter was in last weekend's episode! Now we can look forward to his next outdoor shower time in book 5. :blobshh:

I read mtl. No matter where you read from, he still don't treat her good. Readers are just defending him just cuz they're coming up with "metaphors" that Leyla love him. Saying its literary fiction also an excuse cuz all knovels are like that so wat make CEBIUB any different. I just don't think love excuse anything and I like romance more than toxic love. Don't matter how pretty it written to me. UTOT is literary fiction too but Riftan don't hurt Maxi like wat Matthias did to Leyla. He got flaws but his flaws isn't making him rape her. I don't need Maxi's love to excuse Riftan either. Riftan is more pitiful than Matthias. Even in BR, rape is rape. There are lots of ppl who say they love Ines but not all love are good. Matthias' love is forceful and sly. He wants Leyla and he's lucky Leyla wants him cuz he's not good at all. He just learn to hide the not good side to be with her. He's a guy who would even kill their kid if Leyla dies cuz he only care bout wanting Leyla. Some ppl can think that's romantic cuz omg he want her so bad but I like reading healthier romance.

I appreciate your bringing this up; I've been eager to discuss both books with fellow readers. Recently, I completed Cry, Even Better if you Beg on Yonder, and my admiration for the book is equivalent with that for UTOT. However, I found myself drawn to the writing style in CEBIUB more compared to UTOT. The narrations for each character in Cry, Even Better if you Beg on Yonder are truly exceptional, immersing readers in the lives of the characters without the presence of clear antagonists or villains. The story unfolds through the lens of real, relatable individuals. The realistic portrayals in the character narrations contribute to the authenticity of the narrative. The writing style in Cry, Even Better if you Beg on Yonder stands out distinctly from that of UTOT, which I would not categorize as literary fiction in terms of its style. I highly recommend anyone interested to read CEBIUB on Yonder. I don't recommend FTLs becuase this book has a lot of complex character development. I had to read the book in a snail pace to understand the characters. I don't recommend the book if literary fiction is not a style you like and if you like a fluff romance. The romance is not a fluffy story but a difficult story for both ML and FL.

There's considerable controversy and misunderstanding surrounding the "Deal" element in CEBIUB, particularly when drawing parallels between Layla and Matthias's first time and Riftan and Maxi's. Some readers contend that Riftan's interaction with Maxi could be construed as non-consensual, citing her fear and reluctance to engage in sexual activity. It's important to recognize the intricacies of both situations, taking into account the extensive backstories, nuanced character development, and the influence of historical and social contexts in order to arrive at a more comprehensive interpretation of the narrative.

Imo I prefer BR's writing more. I don't think CEBIUB is anything special to cry about. BR's my fave. UTOT my 2nd. You're right the chars are complex in CEBIUB but I don't think excuse anything. I didn't say I want fluffy story. I want a mature story where couple help each other grow. BR and UTOT got that but CEBIUB is more like ML just hiding a flaw side of him to get FL and FL just fall for his trick.

I don't think the deal is like UTOT at all. Even if ppl say Maxi seemed scare cuz it her first time, she was married to Riftan. It's less demeaning than wat Leyla got to go thru. Leyla always think Matthias is looking down on her. Yeah, he cares about her and love her and dont know that but he's so forceful with getting her that she grows numb to his forces. She always end up stopping fighting back cuz she thinks he'll get his way with her anyway. It like how victims think.

But even if I don't like Matthias, I wouldn't go to that thread to hate. I hated when Carcel haters go to BR to sht on him so I can at least understand that courtesy to let fans enjoy their story. I am just saying it here cuz I just want to say it's normal for there to be haters in this community. You can't stop them from coming.

Hi! I’m new in this forum but has been reading both UTOT and cebyb. First of all, I am so happy to see there is a calm and respectful forum such as UTOT.

I myself enjoy UTOT due to the heavy plot and great supporting characters. Maxi’s development also always made me happy to read. I havent finish the first book so I am definitely far from expert from you guys.

However, I do feel sad sometimes cebyb is very misunderstood because of the complex narratives. I think though it may not have heavy plot like UTOT, cebyb provides rich narratives that are deeply layered. I hope that people would give cebyb a second try

But yes, I am glad to see there is a healthy forum like here in UTOT. If only we could be discussing about a novel without pointing fingers.

I think Matthias is misunderstood because Layla's narration is misleading. Layla doesn't want to fall in love with Matthias so she convinces herself that Matthias is a bad person. Her narration is misleading to herself and the readers. Layla's narration is very complex. Reading on Yonder is definitely best for the story. It's an excellent literary romance novel. The writing is amazing.

Layla's trauma is hidden in her narratives and difficult to read between the lines. While Maxi's empathetic narrative of her trauma is direct and accessible for readers. The subtle details in CEBIUB is like unwrapping a gift when you read twice. Matthias keeps his promises and accepts Layla's damaged self she keeps hidden. However, Layla grapppes with intense guilt, confusion and shame to be a mistress. Layla's quote at the of story. "It is so weird. No one likes a crying orphan child." Matthias loves all of Layla's emotions so when you read on the surface he seems like a psycho but Layla can only cry like an orphan child in front of Matthias.

Riftan and Matthias play crucial roles in aiding the female leads overcoming their trauma. The main difference is that Riftan and Maxi are married compared to Layla and Matthias who want to be married but they can't due to the social constraint of their society. It's more like a forbidden romance they have to overcome. The lead couples in both books have miscommunication.

UTOT's thread not always this peaceful. I used to lurk around here and there were so many haters. If you love a story enough, you'll stay. UTOT got lots of love that ppl here can keep defending so that why it peaceful now. Same with BR. BR got so much hate when manhwa came out and the ppl who love the story defended Carcel so much that now haters don't stick around.

I don't think anyone misunderstood CEBIUB. Just cuz there are ppl who don't agree doesn't mean they misunderstood. Leyla clearly show fear and always struggling back. This not misunderstanding. Matthias love Leyla but Leyla don't see that. She was fighting against him. Like I said, love don't excuse anything. I get they both love each other but it's not something good. I also don't like that ppl keep saying "metaphor" and "complex narrative" to downplay other ppls' opinion on what they think. BR's writing is more complex than this. No one there ever say ppl don't understand the characters cuz of that.

I'm done arguing with this. If you love it then go ahead. Like I said, I just saying haters will always exists.

Lol, yes. I agree. Haters will always be out there. And I do respect that you are not pointing finger to those that have different opinion than you. Would love to see similar interaction in cebyb forum.

I read BR too but the manhwa. Are you reading the novel in tappy?

@Spidey1Fan thank you for writing the comparison about UTOT and CEBYB. Riftan’s aid in helping Maxi to love herself again won my heart. I still remember the scene when Maxi said that she hated herself the most and my heart stopped a bit that time. Do you know there is a novel with similar nuance to UTOT, its called ”my happy marriage”. It is now on Netflix ☺️ the FL reminded me of Maxi a lot. The ML also helped FL to love herself again.

and yes, if Layla’s narratives are written more direct, people maybe would see that Layla’s biggest fear is seen as ’insignificant’ by people including the duke

My intention is to not downplay people's interpretation of books. I like to share my interpretation of the novel and readers can have their own feelings. When I finished the official CEBIUB translation on Yonder I loved the story A LOT more. So much more! It's definitely the type of book that merits multiple readings to fully grasp its depth. It's a really good story when I understood the characters better. Similiar to when I read Riftan's backstory his actions are more understanding.

@mireimisty Yes, I have heard of "My Happy Marriage". Sounds like a Cinderalla trope. Would you say CEBIUB is a Koren version of Pride and Prejudice?

To draw a comparison between the two female leads in UTOT and CEBIUB, Maxi, out of fear of losing Riftan's love, defies his wishes by learning magic. Her determination stems from not wanting to appear incompetent in Riftan's eyes, driving her to strive hard to be useful. On the other hand, Layla is entangled in emotional turmoil over her love for Matthias. In an attempt to cope, she portrays Matthias as a negative figure, while Matthias earnestly endeavors to win Layla's heart through dates, gifts, homes, and quality time. Unfortunately, when Matthias comprehends the ultimate action he must take for Layla, it proves to be too late.
