Very true, I feel the same way as you. When you read the original chapters, a lot more is really expressed and so everyone can understand everything better. The ending will certainly be clearer and easier to understand for us, I firmly believe that and then I will be happier.
i really hope the author does something with breston. i can feel his potential to be a really good villain (his motivations are rly cool to me) and there’s already setup for him to put some kind of pressure on the other kingdoms’ troops as balto hasn’t been putting their full foot down into the war with their troops and supplies and it would be advantageous to attack while everyone is weakened. i don’t know,,, the author is so ridiculously incredible with foreshadowing that i can’t tell if i’m overthinking it or not anymore. i think it would be a shame to throw him away.
Spoiler: Spoiler of 165 Maxi shouts to get under the shield at the panicking soldiers who were running for cover. Some of the soldiers managed to duck behind the barriers set up by the mages, but many broken away in terror and were crushed by the raining rocks. Maxi was watching the terrible scene until she heard Riftan shouting to form and prepare the ballistic. Maximsaw Riftan smashing one of the rocks with his Halbert. Maxi saw the army in chaos and it was Riftan who made them go back into order. The army with their weapons were throwing at the wyverns and many were getting pierced and being thrown by the ground. Maxi saw one thrown to the rear unit and summon her mana, and behind her she felt a gust wind and many wyvern were being blown away. She saw Kuahel lead the Temple Knights a formation. She saw him drew out his sword with a blue aura and with his blade he killed many wyvern and many were crushed as meteorites. Riftan decapitated many of these wyverns with his halberd as they were pumpkins. His valiant move inspired the army morale. Maxi felt relief that many wyverns were cut in half but it wasn't over yet. Maxi saw a dark cloud rose in front of Vesmore castle, she had been plummeting the monster with her wind blasts. Maxi became stiff as she saw the dark phenomenon. Asked Ruth what on earth was that? Maxi got a better view of the dark clouds and it was a troop of black horses, and atop riding on them were knights and all the riders were headless. Maxi says they are dullahans. Maxi was caught out of surprise as he was behind her and near her. Ruth controlled the wyverns successfully in the Pamela Plateau and can Ruth command the wyverns fight the dullhans? Ruth could've controlled that rune as it was created by the dark mages and he is unable to recreate his own rune. Their only option is to find the entity summoning the dead and Maxi can relocate the necromancer with her mana. She will try. She uses her mana but couldn't extract any information as the necromancer controlling the undead was in Vesmore castle. If Kuahel guarantees her safety, she will help him find the necromancer. This is a battlefield no one guaranteed to be safe and Maxi is aware that. What she wants is will Kuahel protect her with the best of his abilities. Kuahel questions Maxi and if she thinks he would not keep safe without such a vow. Maxi is aware that he is capable of sacrificing others the the sake of a cause, but she is also aware that he isn't someone need to risk his life for someone to protect. Maxi isn't obligated to obey his orders but she is at the service of the RDKs and she needs to make an agreement. Kuahel swears in his honor as a knight he will protect Maxi. Ruth was quiet and listening to their conservation, he should go instead and if Riftan finds out she snuck out to the city he will be furious. With the spells he can use are limited, Maxi is capable of both defensive and supportive magic. He wants her to remain there and assist the RDKs. Didn't Ruth heard that one of the Wigrew incarnation made swore with honor to protect her. Ruth should trust her that nothing will happen to her. Maxi and Kuahel go on their way and slip out the coalition encampment without being noticed by allies and enemies. As she saw the battle distant, knowing Riftan strength wasn't enough to be worried about him. It wasn't for her time to worry as she wants to help Riftan and locate the necromancer as soon as possible and cut off the undead army mana supply. She brings her horse next to Kuahel, she would like to try the spell somewhere close to the ramparts. She follows Kuahel and goes an are further from the battle and she dismount from her horse and place her hands on the ground and allow her mana to flow out. Maxi was able to connect her mana pathways with her earth spirit beneath the city, she was focused as her mana net was stretching like a spider web and she finally could detected it was in an empty space under the moat. The army was in castrtophe in the battlefield until Riftan order the whole coalition army and is understandable why is he the supreme commander of the coalition army, he can bring the army into order, if it was someone else who was commanding, the army would be in chaos. Many of these soldiers are inspired by Riftan as they got their spirit back and were fighting more feverent. Riftan is conflicted being a commander and needs to be upfront in the battlefield and command his army and protect Maxi at the same time. Maxi assures Riftan she is alright. Maxi made Kuahel to swear to protect her, yeah Kuahel and if don't keep up to your promise to protect her, you are going to face Riftan. Ruth tried Maxi to stop going, he doesn't want to face Riftan fury and his nagging for not preventing Maxi going to the city. Maxi used a new power and Kuahel blase aura was awesome, now she detected the necromancer maybe will see more powers unleashing.
It seems many want Riftan. I would love to be Maxi, I think it won't ever happen as what KSJ said in her Q&A.
i definitely see riftan as more likely. he’s just a more sensitive guy in general despite his inability to express himself. i don’t think i can see maxi ever thinking of it as something she could put into words—or something she’d think of at all. she’s too worried about him all the time to think of telling him how much she loves him!
In last year's spoilers it was written that Maxi says it at the very end, when she is sitting on the lawn at home with Riftan and Riftan has put his head on Maxi's thigh to rest. (She spoke a line from the nymph's love song to Wigrew)....Maxi looked into the face of her beloved husband. and murmured a song carried by the wind I will love you until my last breath...

Spoiler: Summary of 166 Maxi believes there's an underground moat connected to the tunnel. Maxi and Kuahel are in the whole tunnel to search for the entrance to find the necromancer. To their best of luck the tunnel is in ice, if it wasn't it would be musty. Maxi finds the entrance and tells Maxi to be behind her at all times. Kuahel uses his blue flames on his hand as a light and both passed 3 or 4 skeletons. As they walked more into the tunnel the skeletons were coming to live and Kuahel holds Maxi wrist and with his sword he kills all the skeletons into pieces and while running more come to life and he kills more through the alleyway. Maxi finds an entrance to a shrine and there was a monster with a dark robe, his arms was cuten in half and he picked up and screeched in pain. Then Maxi sees lizardsmen standing in the tribune of the gallery. She uses an advance magic and draws out a barrier. With her mana flow going out she felt her cheeks burning, her palms of her mana circulating burned her and her sleeves of robes became black asthe fire signed them. Maxi almost drained her man of having her barriers until the flames went away. This chapter was a roller coaster. I have nothing say this much about this chapter but that Kuahel is living true to his words of protecting her. More describe of her other magic abilities. The person with a hooded black robe could be the necromancer, undead or a dark mage? He must gone into the shrine to get regenerated or healed from his arm as it was cut off. I don't know if it is me of Kuahel holding Maxi wrist and having teamwork, I didn't like it. I feel it should been Riftan both having teamwork as both reconcile and accepted her being the RDKs mage. I get he is the a solider and commander and needs to do his duties in the battlefield. If Riftan was in the tunnel and saw what happened he would be burning with jealousy and arguing with Kuahel. I understand why some readers were upset with the second half of the book after there reconciliation, there wasn't that much interaction between them both as Maxi wants to be by the side of and help him and many readers felt they didn't saw that. My summary isn't detailed I just summarize what I remember of the chapter I read today.
Can't wait until next chapter. I've seen several discussions here about what actors you see as the main characters.. I donno but I see Riftan as Jason Momoa with no beard ofcourse...cause he should be huge compare to Maxi, tough looking guy and surely mediteranian type. Maxi I see in Emma Stone. Agnes - Elle Funning. Hebaron is for sure Kristofer Hivju, who else with his humor and irish "Oi". Ruth as Bradley James, Ursuline as Matt Barr, Kuahel Leon as Dan Stevens, Richard Breston as Chris Hemsworth. What yall think guys?
Dear athena1979, thanks for the lovely christmas-greetings I picked up the fourth part this afternoon and am reading it. A nice evening (good night, good morning) to all of you.
Spoiler: Summary of 167 Maxi tells Kuahel that they should go after the monsters. But then a lizardsmen fells down. Throughout down inthe building Kuahel fight the monsters and Kuahel defeat them instantly. Maxi low on mana try to find the necromancer. She see a hooded person in the shrine with scales and speaking the same language and that they are too late. He leaves and a red fog comes out, Kuahel wants to go and defeat the monster but Maxi stops him as the red fog is a spell that will decay him and the red fog laters turns into out a black fog. Maxi couldn't find the necromancer and her mana was too low to detected and Kuahel felt dejected that he couldn't defeat the monster. Both need to find a way to leave before the spell can get to them, Kuahel sees something on top, so both go on a ladder on top and Maxi is a little afraid and when she makes out of the building she sees the weather isn't good. They are in a snowstorm and Kuahel idea is to lower the drawbridge and destroy it and then get out.Maxi sees out in the distance red banner and the Northwestern army has reached their destination. Maxi is leaving up to her promise of not being self sacrificing with her mana and she was honest to Kuahel she had too little mana to tract the necromancer. Kuahel keeping his oath of protecting Maxi and even Maxi protected Kuahel. She is being a big help to Riftan but at a price. They really revived the dragon as they were to late and maybe will be after Riftan as he defeated them past. Kuahel and Riftan have similar battle skills and can tell why don't get along. At least the Royal Wedon and Livadon armis came.
Spoiler: Summary of 168 Maxi is excited that the reinforcements came but for Kuahel it wasn't for time for celebrations as he needs to use the relic to prevent the dragon reviving. Maxi is low on mana and wants to levitate even though knowing it will deplete her. Kuahel helps her with his hand and are in a different place. They aren't anymore where they infiltrated but where the battle was ongoing. The coalition army and mage were helping where was the ramparts but the monsters had the uphold in the battle and the coalition army must have underestimated these monsters. Maxi watche on how Breston walked on his dead comrades and defeated the dull hand. He was disappointed as the dullhan would revive back. The RDKs and Dristan knights were backing away the dullhans but Maxi believes if the war was over, Riftan would've know as a failure. Richt wants to desert from the war but Ursuline doesn't let it happen as they are allies in the war. He doesn't see him as allies and won't take orders by Riftan. He is blabbering about his father and then reinforcements comes and to his shock he sees the Southern confederacy of Balto. Richt goes to Riftan and wants to know how he did it. Riftan talk about the pope and King Hemidall and if the pope was behind to convince the army of the Southern confederacy to join and Riftan doesn't answer his question. Richt tells Riftan that he must think him of a full as the church couldn't even made a move without them knowing about it. Richt really underestimated Riftan and was a step ahead of his game. He thought he really can defeat him. Riftan proves to be superior of him. Maxi wanted to do a spell that she well known it would deplete her mana, if she would done it, she would bring pain to Riftan. Richt is a person who is hungry for blood but it is a coward at the same time. Maybe his father might be behind of the Southern Confederacy joining as he is loyal to the peace treaty. If the pope is behind, he must have build allies as he must have suspected king Hemidall. Riftan is really a superman, he killed 8 dullhan by himself. This war has been tragic as many soldiers were fallen only if the nobles cooperated and many lives could been saved.
