Eh. No. That's not actually how it works...

FL isn't universally loved. She's just wandering around undoing brainwashing on people. That didn't make her automatically loved. She also acknowledges that some of the people she un-brainwashes are legitimately bad people (even if she does ally with some).

 

Maybe unpopular opinion, but when I see people complaining about the brainwashing excuse being lame or the FL being same-ey or the romance being boring, it feels like people are complaining that their cough syrup doesn't taste like an ice cream parfait.

When I see a title like 'I will divorce the female lead's siscon brother' I am entering with the understanding I am not about to read a real story. This isnt meant to be an interesting world or a cast of characters I'll grow to love. This is meant to be a parody, deconstruction, or critisism of the tropes listed in the incredibly shitty title. You dont even need to know the FL's name. She's the same FL as all the other meta 'Side Character Realizes These Tropes Are Creepy When You're Actually Living Next To Them' story who uses her insight and empathy to counteract the shitty ogfl's fake insight and empathy. the ML is the same consolation prize that every FL who gets abused has, a man of conveniently more wealth and influence who was somehow a villain in the original (even tho no webnovel with a man that attractive and powerful would actually be the villain because webnovels cant even handle hot rich guys being Slightly Mean without a brainwashing excuse.)

And like... Thats Okay. I'm not here to think about FL's feelings or innermost world or act like the ML's tragic backstory actually touched me, im here for her to call out how creepy those 'loving family to the point of incest' novels are. I'm here to watch the people who are tossed aside or abused in the FL's name to get a voice, I'm here to see powerful characters who do absurd things with their power be held accountable for their actions. I'm here to watch paper-thin parodies of tropes to have reality kick their asses, and then imagine characters from other novels who annoyed me in their place.

The 'brainwashing' isn't so much an excuse as it is an in-universe explanation for the REAL reason these characters suck- because they were created to simp for ogfl. the real villain of the story is the author of the fictional novel that fl was trapped in. there is a number of ways these stories explain the existential horror of living in a world designed to simp a single girl, how the people in it are robbed of agency and find themselves cosmically drawn to events where they're forced to love a single person against their will, against their honor, against their judgement. This one uses the 'there was an evil goddess who cast a spell' excuse because just saying 'the world fell apart the second these characters became people with agency' would mean we wouldnt get to see our FL calling out the bullshit behavior. Thats the reason this novel exists.

And to be clear: With these meta titles, the author CAN decide to flip the script and make me care. Some of you are posting versions of this story done better, thats proof of that. 'Miss Not So Sidekick' is also an over the top parody of harem webnovels, and I found myself genuinely invested in her life and relationships by the end. Hell, Remarried Empress, one of the most popular and influential webnovels that has been published lately, was a covert meta parody of the 'Commoner FL who enters the palace and takes over everything' trope. You CAN tell a story with this kinda premise, I just don't think its necessary.

If the title wasn't what it was it would literally be the same as every other rofan. I see no difference. The authors don't trust there wirting so they shove in "muh brianwashung" so they won't have to write complex scenarios or think too hard

 

They won't stop writing this stuff. They generate to much criticism. It doesn't matter if what is said is good or bad. The more people talk the better. It gets the book read by more people. The worst thing for them would be to have no one talk about it. This stuff gets them the views without having to be politically or socially controversial. That can have other negatives. So this stuff is a win win.

 

Which is actually an interesting phenomenon, because bad reviews are supposed to keep readers away from mediocre cash-grab novels. But readers continue purchasing new chapters and eagerly waiting for the new releases, and publishers keep on announcing webtoons for the most unexpected stories out there.

The past 2 years were just insane with so many unremarkable cliche stories getting manhwas with copy-paste like unremarkable art every few weeks. I wonder when this bubble is going to burst and what will be the new cliche trope for the next few years.

 

After the latest manhwa chapter, anyone has spoilers on how long the divorce is going to take ? Praying that it’s 1/2 chapters max.

Spoiler: Divorce Trial Part 1

• The trial has an audience of many nobles that won the lottery to attend.
  
• Farrell (lawyer) supports Cassius's family for various professional and personal cases.
• Farrell states that Leandro was managing the family territory which affected his availability with Ethel due to his work schedule. He accuses that Ethel was inconsiderate and unreasonable with the Cassius family and employees.
  
• Leandro shares he is reflecting and promises to be a better husband if Ethel agrees not to divorce. The audiences favor his response due to his words. Ethel obviously refuses.
  
• Sharon has Laura (maid) shares her experiences with Leandro and Ethel as a witness. She states that Leandro and Ethel have separate bedrooms; that Ethel asked Leandro to share time with her; and that Leandro continuously refused her invitations.
• Farrell asks Laura to be more specific of the time frame and eventually accuses that she's not reliable since she can't share details. He shares Leandro's work schedule as evidence to show that he was constantly working. Sharon questions the schedule because transportation and management time frame was odd. She also shares that Leandro and Cassius family were at banquets and vacations without Ethel.
• Farrell shares that Leandro is inexperienced with women and was more comfortable with his family. He shares that Leandro avoided Ethel because he was nervous and regrets how he treated Ethel.

The Cassius's family lawyer is great at persuading the audience ... I entirely loathe him.

Spoiler: Divorce Trial Part 2

• Ethel has an altercation with Marianne (head maid) when the trial is on break. Ethel decides to provoke Marianne when she shares her testimonies in front of the judge and audience. Liena interrupts their altercation and leaves with Duke Cassius.
  
• Kayden (head butler) has been pressured to ride in a carriage with Cassius knights and questions them. The knights were ordered by Liena and not Duke Cassius. Liena planned to hide Kayden during the trial. Kayden is disappointed that he can't support Ethel.
  
• Terence ambushes the carriage and uses his abilities (dark red light) on the knights. Terence rides with Kayden on one horse. Kayden learns that Terence placed a tracker on him using his abilities. Terence is already having side affects for using his abilities.
• Farrell has Marianne (head maid) share her testimonies when the trial resumes. Marianne shares that Ethel was unapproachable and ignored attempts by employees. Ethel thinks this is technically true because she was exhausted of hearing about Liena at all times. Marianne shares that Leandro asked her to ensure Ethel's comfort in the past and insinuates that Ethel didn't work unlike Leandro.
• Sharon questions Marianne about Ethel's involvement in the Cassius family. Marianne shares that Liena manages the estate because Ethel was not educated by her previous family (Wallace). Sharon questions why Ethel was not educated by the Cassius family after her marriage. Farrell intervenes and shares evidence of families that had an internal member manage the estate instead of the spouse. Farrell persuades the judge and audience that Ethel was treated well by the Cassius family and employees.
• Marianne asks Ethel to return to the Cassius family. Ethel provokes Marianne and Sharon plays the recording the device. The recording is from the portrait argument where Marianne shouts that Liena is the master and states that Leandro prefers Liena to manage the estate. Sharon explains how Marianne never treated Ethel as a master.
• Marianne screams that the recording device was stolen by Ethel. Sharon shares that Ethel did not state when she would return it and is protected according to the law. Farrell argues that the voice on the recording has not been confirmed to be Marianne.
  
• Sharon confronts Farrell that he was the first lawyer to use recordings as evidence. The judge agrees with Sharon and she continues that recordings can't be altered because of the magic stones in them. Farrell admits that Marianne failed as an employee.

I'm sleepy now and will continue with the last part of the trial tomorrow. Sharon rules!

I'll add what happens after the trial ends with the Cassius family since the judge needs to review the evidence before approving the divorce.

 

This story is lighter than the usual stories I read but it makes me angrier...
I am angry with everyone here except for MC and her allies...
And it is weird because the antagonists are not even smart. There are rather pathetics...

 

The trial was around 10 chapters, but the divorce was another 5 chapters. The webtoon is faster than the novel from what I’ve seen.

Spoiler: Divorce Trial Part 3

• Marianne (head maid) stares at Liena for support. Liena apologizes for Marianne's conduct while in tears. She shares she managed the estate to ensure Ethel didn't have difficulties. The judge warns Liena she will be removed from the trial if she interrupts again.
  
• Marianne throws herself on the floor, bangs her forehead, and apologizes to Ethel. The judge has the guards remove her while she's bleeding and screaming. Leandro apologizes to Ethel for his ignorance, declares Marianne is terminated, and shares all employees can be removed if Ethel returns.
• Leandro announces he will relinquish his rights as the successor to the Cassius family if he's unable to perform his declarations. Sharon shares that Leandro was not aware of the employees' treatment to Ethel and Farrell states it won't be a repeatable mistake. Farrell shares evidence of many divorces and that Leando didn't commit crimes (abuse, cheating, etc). Ethel repeats that she wants a divorce because her trust in him can't be repaired.
  
• Sharon shouts that she has a new witness and the judge is reluctant to continue the trial. Kayden (head butler) enters and introduces himself. The judge is confused and surprised that he's a witness for Ethel. Duke Cassius shouts about Kayden's betrayal and Liena fails to calm him. The judge has the guards remove both Duke Cassius and Liena.
• Sharon asks Kayden about the marriage of Leandro and Ethel. He shares that Ethel was unhappy and was not treated properly by all employees (including himself). He confirms that Leandro knew about Ethel's experiences and that Kayden shouldn't be concerned.
• Sharon announces the reason for the divorce.

I'm excited to share that Leandro will be humiliated in the next spoiler.

 

I stopped reading after the divorce, but I peaked at later chapters. Elliot was angry at Tara for "betraying" Liena and started spying on her. Ethel embarrassed Elliot by calling him a pervert because of his spying. I don't know their ending since I lost access to many of the Korean chapters.

 

Thanks! I also stopped reading after the divorce arc. I’m not sure if I’ll continue or not. I left off at the part you’re describing where Elliot threatened MC during the Tara situation. It made me wonder if those talented people will live better or worse lives after getting involved with OGFL.

 

Truueeeeee, i hate it when the antagonist is smart b'coz its so hard to prove the protagonist's innocent. But this manhwa already have stupid antagonist, yet acting high and mighty, i just want to get inside this chapter for a bit and slap 'em all across the face lolol

• Sharon asks the judge to remove the audience from the trial. She states that the upcoming evidence may damage the reputation of Leandro. Farrell denies Sharon's request because it may create rumors. Sharon ask for his confirmation and Farrell replies that Leandro fears nothing. The judge doesn't allow Sharon's request.
• Ethel walks towards the stand and testifies that Leandro can't conceive an heir, which is an issue for the family succession. Me: She basically insinuates that Leandro is impotent in front of the judge and audience! How humiliating for a well-known noble.
• Ethel announces that Leandro avoids being intimate with her since the beginning of their marriage. Sharon shares this has been confirmed by Laura (maid) and Kayden (head butler) since they manage the bedrooms. Sharon wants to have Laura and Kayden to continue their testimonies. Farrell shouts that Ethel and Sharon defamed Leandro.
• Leandro is shocked and Ethel realizes that Leandro never shared the lack of intimacy to Farrell due to pride. Laura testifies that Ethel and Leandro never shared a bedroom. Kayden confirms with Laura and shares that Leando doesn't love Ethel as a woman. Farrell tries to refute the testimonies and accuses that Kayden was bribed? Me: I think that's what Farrel was stating.
• Sharon denies the accusation and a woman (Cassius follower) screams that Ethel sold all her gifts from Leandro. The woman claims she saw Ethel's ring at a jewelry store. Ethel walks towards Leandro and shows him the "sold ring" that he won from an auction. Leandro confirms it's the ring and the woman is confused. Ethel repurchased her jewelry with Terence's support.
• Ethel shares that divorce is the only gift she wants from Leandro. The judge ends the trial to review all the evidence and Farrell comforts Leandro. Ethel and Sharon leave the courtroom and meets Duke Cassius. Ethel states she will visit Duke Cassius with Kayden in the morning.

Spoiler: Trial Info

• The audience is persuaded by Farrell and Liena's words throughout the trial.
• The difference between the two is that Farrell uses his confidence and knowledge, while Liena uses her "presence" with words. Liena has a strong presence that overwhelms everyone according to Ethel. She believes it's because the main character is Liena.
• The reader(s) don't know about Liena's abilities yet, except that Kayden felt like a haze was removed from him after speaking with Ethel multiple times.
• Terence tried to remove all Cassius and Liena followers from the lottery before the trail to help Ethel. He knew followers would probably be disruptive.
