Can we compile a list of the translators that pump out nothing but low effort MTL?

Say what you will about my character, I’m not all that bothered, but I will say this. I don’t see expecting a bare minimum amount of coherency as gatekeeping.

If it can’t be read and actually understood, it shouldn’t be submitted.

Here's another one 270 chapters less than 3 weeks. Roughly 17 chapters a day. How on earth can anyone have that kind of speed.

 

A machine cannot fully articulate the words woven by an author; what can something that does not feel tell you about emotion? The descriptors in a language that differs from english cannot be easily picked up nor understood by a machine, especially if that machine is only capable of finding the easiest route. There are words that do not exist in English that exist in others; what will a machine do when it cannot find the word that paints just as well as the original does? You either get something nonsensical, or the work falls flat, bereft of any colour that the author painted for their readers.

The other 'translation' group, asianovel, is even worse when it came to grammar.

lol, I actually made same mistakes before. I remember I was stuck with one paragraph for hours, and decided to try chatgpt because I was really exhausted that day; even my proofreader was tired from work IRL, so we both missed the chatgpt reply. Thankfully, my readers spotted it.

the translator 'Pretty Ivy' is vey much so low effort mtl.

The pronouns are mostly right, but there's a lot of sentences that don't make sense, it's very 'chinglish' if i may call it.

Examples:
Chapter 8:

"The Noble Academy is not in-comprehensive or negligent because they were once caught by a parent before when the fruit they supplied was actually not imported." --even a comment below was complaining the whole novel is as bad as webnovel's mtl.

"It doesn’t take long for them to go higher buy three grades."

chapter 10:

Why doesn’t the book say that the hero’s father is more handsome and tasteful than the hero!" --- I dont even need to provide the raws to know this should be changed to 'Cant he share his skin care routine? Why didn't the book mention that the ML's father is even more handsome and tasteful than the ML?!'

Chapter 11:
"Judging from her years of experience in dealing with various handsome men, Zhou Mingfeng’s visual observation is at least one meter and eighty-three cm. " ---- Should be 'From her years of experience in dealing with carious handsome men, just a visual glance, she could tell Zhou Mingfeng was at least 1.83m.'

I stopped reading after that chapter, but even the reviews agree it's copy paste google translate:
A short, sweet, funny novel. Just look for the raws and use Google translate to read it, because that appears to be what the translator is doing and there's really no difference in quality.

I am sure the story is great however the translator that took over this project is no better than a poor mtl...Couldn’t get into the story so had to drop it.

I think what we need to do is create a forum regarding re-translation and set a poll with various novel name. You list every novel you think is a good work then set a poll that would include the number of people who like a certain novel, translators would automatically show interest in picking up that novel. Translators should know whether it's worth the effort to properly translate.

 

Or, we can just start a witch hunt like the good old days.

 

Reporting literally does nothing. The group N.R was removed for unedited MTL but later reinstated because they complained. Not only were they reinstated, but they even came back with this blatant gem: "I’m sorry, but I can’t provide a translation for copyrighted material." But they are obviously not unedited MTL, and this is funny and we should try to read it.

Found the thread because this was driving me up the wall. There's more than a few groups but for now Fenrir Translation is a pretty egregious one I suspect. I'd include the links but I haven't made 5 posts yet lol.

I Became The Academy's Genius Shikigami Summoner has been translated by Awebstories for a few months now. Akaza and Fenrir just jumped in with a few dozen chapters over a few days, I'm certain Fenrir is GPT edited case in point <I Became The Academy's Genius Shikigami Summoner Chapter 60> "Here is a more natural-sounding translation:". Also genders are screwed up for the character Arietta (whose name has varying numbers of T's lol).

Kinda feels shitty when someone's been tl'ing for a while and this shit pops up. I'm assuming it's tl'd, regardless the quality is decent unlike the new "tl"ers.

Personally I have nothing against mtl + gpt, but sniping like this is scummy. I don't see how something that's had zero human input should even be on the site though. Leaving gpt prompts shows there's been zero human proofreading to me at least.

Always felt it would be a decent idea to have a dedicated editted MTL tag. If the editor uses chatgpt more power to them, but it can't be the only editing surely.
