Hey y'all, I'm looking for some nice romance novels without triggers like rape/no consent or abuse. Examples of triggering novels: - Rebirth of a Fashionista (around ch. 180 it gets very very uncomfortable, though it showed hints of it early on) - Fragrance Beauty - Good Morning, Mr. Dragon! Other requests (sorry if I'm being too picky): - Smart FL (there are wayyyyy too many ditzy ones out there) who can stand up for herself - It would also be nice if the translations are good, not just MTL. Thanks in advance!
I kinda get where you're coming from, but I read to be relaxed, not to get more white hairs. Plus triggers like rape and abuse are really against my values so I'd prefer not to read about relationships containing them.
A Slight Smile is Very Charming. One of raw few chinese romance novel I enjoy. Completed and you don't have to read the side stories
I don't condone these things in real life, but to me a novel is fake so I don't place my moral values into a book as getting mad or offended by something that isn't even real is absurd. to me it's like getting mad at a wall for running into it's absurd. I won't ask you to change as it won't happen, but literature is free it should not be bound by rules or morals as literature is just words that make a story made to entertain it would be different if this was about a book where someone wrote his plans and was going carry them out for real, but it's not. Fiction should be allowed to play unhinged and unfettered. someone once told me a "learned man can open his mind to things that make him uncomfortable and peer to the other side." fiction allows ppl to play with thoughts they might never think of and lets them visualize such experience be it good or bad.
Its a bit weird to bring this into someone's thread asking for personal recommendations, since it seems like you're in a different discussion of what should be allowed in fiction in general. Everyone has limited time for reading, and choosing to read one thing is also a choice not to read anything else at the moment. Fiction of course allows people to explore lots of things they otherwise wouldn't in real life, but that's hardly a reason why someone should drop what they're interested in to read something they prefer to avoid. Also while there's a lot of great works of art that explore immoral characters or dark sides of humanity, a lot of the stuff that's going to be found on this website is probably not the kind that's going to explore these in an intelligent or insightful way. I have a pretty high tolerance for whatever, and I've experienced plenty of uncomfortable stuff in media, and there's quite a lot of it that isn't particularly interesting and gets quite repetitive, and some genres are saturated with the same toxic tropes. Media with characters who act morally often is quite insightful, since it usually means the characters have emotional intelligence and are capable of complex relationships rather than following simple selfish impulses, and I've found I learn much more about different perspectives with moral characters than stuff that just throws around harmful actions in a thoughtless way. Of course everyone is free to explore whatever kind of fiction/media that interests them on their own time, but just because one use of fiction can be exploring darker emotions, that's hardly a strong reason for someone to commit their time away from their other interests to it, especially in this context where there's a low chance of it being done well.
I agree with @All The Wrong Novels; you seem to be in the wrong discussion for this kind of thing. Thanks for your insight, but I would still rather not read something that affects my mental health negatively. In the end, we each have our own tastes. Let us agree to disagree.
He's Mine, No Objections Allowed (the FL in this one! She has her act together. Kind of like You're My Glory, but with less melancholy) Return of the Goddess (I don't know if this qualifies, as the FL went through some pretty traumatic stuff - bullying in HS which had catastrophic consequences for her family. But it's handled really well and doesn't feel like something that's there just to add to the "drama") Accompanying the Phoenix (this one is kind of...depressing, heart-wrenching, but also heart-warming?) Captivated by You Destined Marriage of Shang Jun (idk if this counts, considering the set-up for the main story, and also it is verrrrrrrrry slow in terms of romance. We're at chapter 50 and have seen neither hide nor hair of the ML yet) Great God, I'll Support You (I read the summaries for future chapters are there are a fair amount of white lotuses, and the FL... exists on another plane of existence, but I really like it) My Mr. Mermaid Pampering My Cute Pet (translations have stopped, and there is - at risk of spoiling - a drunk no consent kiss, but I personally would not classify it as triggering) Spending the Villain's Money to Extend My Life The Distinguished Cute Master (idk if this counts. I refuse to believe that the ML would ever *knowingly* harm the FL, but it's hard to tell if later on he won't have a "it's fine because I love her" moment. I don't think it'll happen though) The Former Wife of Invisible Wealthy Man (the most least likely to do anything bad ML ever. Seriously.) The Star Light Shines When He Came (pretty sure this fits as the ML's goal is to get rid of their life regrets.) The Villainous Celebrity Wife of the CEO (this is pretty funny but the ML exhibits classic "oh she's ignoring me, but she's can really be ignoring me - it must be a ploy to attract my attention" syndrome ) Two Ex-Husbands On One Stage (very funny) You’re Beautiful When You Smile (!!! You'll have to see if their mode of interaction floats you boat (it's bickering and sarcasm) but I love their interactions) The Female Supporting Character Just Wants To Live A Good Life (this is like Hello, Wife! in that the FL is, in my opinion, a little too clinical towards love and romance, but it's still a nice (if occasionally frustrating) read) Completed A Lifetime of Peace and Care Ambiguous Relationship (I really like how the ML and FL interact when they're "friends" in this) Every Vicious Woman Needs a Loyal Man (?) I Refuse to be a Supporting Character Same Place Not Same Bed Your Humble Servant is Guilty!
