It's a really funny experience to actively talk to strangers over the web.
When you're talking to people IRL, you are generally a lot more careful with the what and how you say people, because they're your friends/acquaintances, and you don't really want to get in a bad mood with them due to a pointless discussion. Same goes for online friends, you wouldn't really want to harm them.
On the other hand, you can be as blunt and direct as you want to strangers, because... Hey, they're strangers after all! It's not like they matter anything~
Sure, I try to not be too rude, but I don't really sugar-coat what I'm saying when talking to those strangers on the web.
This leads to some funny scenarios.
Sometimes, our opinion just drastically diverges with someone else's, or at others, it diverges even with the vocal minority... But it is still our opinion anyway, and when you have a good basis on your opinion, it's really hard for someone to make it sway.
However... People tend to try taking the moral high-ground when creating discussions about things on the web... And I don't know about you, but I looooove picking up fights with strangers on the moral high ground, it's just so fun~
The first time it happened was when the whole Qidian Drama started, in which there were basically the WW supporters, the Qidian supporters (which quickly disappeared), and the people that didn't care... I'm part of the group that doesn't care, but I like picking fights, so I'm vocal about it~
The 2nd time was more recent, on a discussion about an E-book made by GT, in which the OP argued about how GT made some bad decisions and just made a poor job and left a cliffhanger on the book and betrayed readers and yada yada... Well, I just tried saying that putting a cliffhanger on the end of the book is a well-thought business decision to make more people buy the next book.
The 3rd one is happening right now actually, I'm on a debate with a guy talking about how the patreon change ruins the 1$ pledges... While I'm basically saying that the 1$ pledges make no difference to the content creator at all~
Agree or disagree to me, I can assure you those were the core of my posts and I rarely deviated from it... Well, here is the deal.
Sooner or later those people notice that they can't really make you sway, but they're petty (not like I a not petty, I am veeeeeeeery petty), and they want to win an internet argument with a random stranger... But hey! I am also petty! I just said that! I want to win it!
So, they try using the moral high ground, on the first 2 scenarios I just go labeled as Qidian supporter and herald of evil, bringer of doom to the WN translation scene and all those things any of the Qidian supporters get. Which is honestly laughable since I never read a single novel that came from Qidian, I just don't read stuff with 4 digits of chapters, I don't have time for it.
On the 3rd case, I started getting accused of belittling the people that give 1$ pledges... Now that's mean, I mean, I think donating and supporting your favorite content creators is a pretty nice act, I would do it myself if I didn't struggle to make ends meet every month. Still, I won't delude myself thinking a 1$ donation will make any difference on someone's paycheck at the end of the month, nor will 30 of those, you'd need thousands of those donations... And if you have thousands of people donating, you definitely have people donating higher amounts, so the 1$ donations will make no difference.
So... My point was basically that the 1$ donations were essentially coffee money... But well, that's that, I'm not here to talk about the patreon thing.
My point is more... It's funny~
"You disagree with me, therefore you're evil! You're a supporter of the 'monster'!" "You are belitting the goodwil of those people that are giving what they can!"
Like, sure, disagree all you want with me, but I'm just being honestly blunt about my view on the topic, I'm not supporting Qidian, I'm not saying the people donating 1$ are worthless people or anything like that, I'm just talking about the events surrounding those things...
I wonder if people take moral high ground on purpose to try and make my argument sound "evil" because they're petty (like I said above), or if their eyes just got clouded by their emotions and make their judgement see something I did not say, misunderstanding my actual point (what the blog title is all about).
I just started wondering about this I guess, I once said my mom was "being stupid" due to some discussion we were having, and no matter how many times I highlighted the "being" part, she just kept on saying that after all her hardwork, what she got was that her daughter said she "is stupid"...
It just strikes me as strange I guess, I can be a really biased person, and I can remember a lot of small pointless things people say, but I definitely don't put words on their mouths...
I wonder if it's actually normal to put what you think the other party thinks as what they said just because you are in an argument with them... I never experienced that on my side, so I feel like it is not... But at the same time, it's at least the 4th time it happens to me, so maybe it's actually more common than I might imagine.
Well, it was just a blog with me wondering about this strange occurrence that keeps happening to me, there is not much more to it.
