My friend has recently gotten into anime and asked me to recommend movies. I consider myself an outlier on what I watch ( I watch anime’s that have a lot of murder, and things like that). I was wondering if there are any anime movies you guys would recommend a new comer to the wonderful world of anime.
No Game No Life: zero Dragon Ball: Broly Black Butler: book of the Atlantic Ghost in the shell Spirited Away Totoro Pokémon movies(3, 4ever, Latios and Latina’s, and Ranger and the temple of the sea) Inuyasha the Movie: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass Yu-Gi-Oh!: Bonds Beyond Time All case close movies
Most of Ghibli's works usually a good start for introduction (exception is Grave of Fireflies), else are comedies and/or slice of life If they don't mind something more advance then maybe Appleseed, Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita), Paprika, Ghost in the Shell, Gundam OVAs/movie (Narrative, Unicorn, 08th MS Team, Stardust Memory), Patlabor movies (1st, 2nd & WXIII) and/or Madhouse's Marvel works (Iron Man, Iron Man: Rise of Technovore, Blade & Wolverine) OR If you want to give them something that maybe more of your taste: Drifters, Hellsing, Jormungand, Black Lagoon & Youjo Senki
Hm? There's many awesome anime movies~ but seeing how you prefer the murder stuff..... ~Blood: the last vampire ~Ninja scroll ~Sword of the stranger ~Wicked city ~belladonna of sadness That's all that comes to mind....hope it helps.
Correction: especially Grave of the Fireflies*. New to anime or not, sadness will come. These are some decent ones: Hotarubi no mori e koe no katachi Weathering with you I want to eat your pancreas The disappearance of haruhi suzumiya (you have to watch the anime first, though. But trust me, it's 100% worth it.)
+1 on Black Butler and No Game No Life... But not if they haven't finished the series. +1 on Hotarubi (personally, I cry for that story so... disclaimer) xxxHolic: A Midsummer's Night Dream is also memorable for me... (having watch the series would be nice but not necessary, I think)
That's actually a bit of a hard question because a lot of anime movies now are either compilation films of series or they follow on from series. I'd say Ghiblis might be your best bet. Ghost in the Shell if you want something darker and thrilling. personally, i find it a bit odd that a newcomer would ask for movies instead of series.
Seconding Ghibli. Adding: Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki Kara no Kyoukai Bakemono no Ko The girl who Leapt through Time
