    I like BL and Bara. It's like sibling genres to me.

    BL for cute affectionate stories, unless I find a bad one through scans, and bara for some muscles for me to feast on. I gotten into gay romance novels because I fetishized picturing everyone as variation muscular. I love Romance covers with gentlemen torso.

    I'm a lady and I'm very aware that I am a periphery fan to Bara stuff. But I don't mind sharing stuff I like, and I like muscles on everybody.

    Even Mussels.

    For BL, the majority of readers are undoubtedly female.

    Straight women are okay with kissing, hugging, and general casual intimacy only up until they realise that the other party isn't straight. It's because they assume that a relationship between women will only ever be platonic that they're comfortable doing whatever with each other.
    If a straight woman realises another woman isn't straight, many of them will become paranoid about even hugging.

    Yuri is actually primarily made by women for women, though. Unlike BL, which is one cohesive genre aimed pretty much only at straight women, GL is made up of a range of types made for different audiences - stuff aimed at straight women, stuff aimed at straight men, stuffed aimed at women who like women, etc.
    Yuri made primarily for men is much newer than yuri made for women and is relatively rare in comparison. I do remember seeing somewhere that male fans of yuri - particularly in Japan - like yuri subtext far more than real yuri.
    Most yuri mangaka and writers are also women.

    The history of yuri is really fascinating when you get into it...

    I know a straight guy with a little BL collection. He really almost did pick up a girl by lending her his BL manga.
