Forgotten Title Can't remember where this scene is from: Guy begging to die ends up scaring enemies

My memory is hazy so I don't know if I'm recalling correctly, but I think this is what happens:

Someone genuinely wants to die (I don't know if it was an MC or side character), and it just so happens that there are enemies capable of killing him in that situation. However, because he's so desperate to die and because he's begging them to kill him, the enemies start getting scared and refuse to kill him. At this point, the person is doing every thing possible to get them to kill him, and I think he angers them, but because he's so eager to die, the enemies are wary and don't kill him.

Aghhh I can't remember the details clearly, but it was funny so I want to remember what it was.

 

"TIL of a Chinese general with 100 troops who had to defend a town against 150,000. He told his men to hide, flung open the gates and sat on the walls playing a lute. The opposing general, certain it was a trap, ordered a retreat"

Other people (on his side) were there too, and because the enemies were too afraid to target him, they went for the other people, so the guy who wanted to die got angry. TT_TT my memoryyyy

Lol no that isn't what I found funny. I know what scene you're talking about, and it's not this novel. The scene I'm talking about is actually comedic - I thought TTNH's was just sad. Nice guess though.

he wasnt trying to die... his words just dont come out as he wished 90% of the time.... and in the end he got killed.... (and dies several more times) were looking for one that lived/didnt die...?
