As the title says, wouldn't be pretty awesome if you can prevent others from commenting on your blog, like how mods can lock threads or how you can prevent further replies in PMs?
A delete comment privilege for the blog creator would be enough for me. Same thing as having control on your profile page.
It's a forum. If you want to post public blogs then you should just be prepared to deal with it. If you want your safe space, then keep it to your profile because that's exactly what it is, your personal safe space. As soon as you start throwing things out into the public sphere, you should understand that people have as much of a right as you do to make a comment on that. It might sound pedantic, but you're suggesting a precedent that can end up being rather toxic because people aren't afraid of consequence. This is an even worse idea. Why don't you just ask for everything you don't like on the forum to be deleted while you're at it?
Blogs are in that gray area between public and private. Personally, the reason why I use it is because it's convenient. Writing long passages on your profile is troublesome. If I wanted to keep the blog out from public sight, I just delete and keep the link. Since only a mod could permanently delete a blog, it remains active but hidden from public sight. And it's just a suggestion, your tone is a bit harsh.
You know exactly what you're getting when you post a public blog on a forum. I don't see how this is ambiguous at all. It is troublesome, sure. But at the end of the day you're on a public forum with a public blog as an added feature. Cool. Ask stupid questions, win stupid prizes.
I was thinking more about how the blog feature could be used in games or, say, public storage spaces/information repository? It's certainly easier than creating a thread then getting a mod to lock replies. If someone starts posting toxic things in blogs, they can be reported.
Well yeah. That and being able to remove comments as you please. Tho that sounds more totalitarian than I thought... Welp, nvm.
Ooh, I didn't know that. Can other people still see the deleted blog if they have the link or is it only visible to you?
They could still see it if they have the link. Also, if you "watch" a hidden blog, you'd still receive alerts as usual from new comments. Upon a little experimentation, it was found out that when you have "send alerts to followers when posting new blogs" checked on the alert preferences, even if you delete/hide the blog immediately, the alert doesn't disappear so they would still find the blog.
That can be pretty useful, especially if this suggestion doesn't get implemented in the end. I mean, you can make pms instead but they can be a real pain to sort through...*side-eyes game pms*
Yh, they could be pretty useful. I once had this hundred day writing project, it's a bit personal so I hid it away instead of seeing it on the latest blogs list every time I post haha. Well, good luck on your endeavor, mate.
Well, even in some youtube videos you could see they have disabled comments. And youtube can be considered much more "public" than blogs. I don't see why not.
