Having read to the current release, I'm wondering where the novel is headed. At this stage he's pretty rich yet everthing he does need the involement of the government. Why? I know the author used the excuse of the time period and corruption but why hasnt he shifted his HQ to HongKong or overseas?
Because he is a proud Chinese citizen and wants to to bring about the rise of China as an economic and technological power.
Although the author has a capitalist mentality, he is a dog of the government, obviously will always bear this shit. In mansion apocalypse it was different, which is why I prefer it when it comes to business management novels. What good is it for you to be the protagonist of a business history in which you build an empire, if your life is governed by a corrupt government that steals you compulsively? I've seen a review of a guy who read Extraordinary Genius and said that this continues for a long time. The protagonist always donates a portion of the money he earns to build schools / hospitals for the people, always taking care for the money these schools / hospitals do not get touched by the government, but in the end, the government always comes after his head complaining that he wins a lot of money and that is why it should continue to sponsor the country. That is, he makes a lot of money, donates to build infrastructure for the country, and yet the fucking government complains. Seriously, government sucks.
Mansion apocalypse is best at this point. The protagonist gets pissed off with the government, moves to a small country, takes government, creates his own country, and develops it using his own money. Author of mansion apocalypse is a great libertarian.
I'm reading mansion as well and it just makes more sense. Only thing holding it back is its release speed. I'm only a bit away from dropping this, will give it a few more chapters.
Dropped, latest arc with the pharmaceutical companies is what made me decide to drop it. Knowing that this continues for awhile annoys the shit out of me.
