If one were to put the human race in an IQ test, where would we end up? Ofc I'm asking what is our average IQ, or has this not been calculated?.. Too lazy to research from Google searches.
Eh, IQ tests are a poor measure of overall human intelligence. They were designed as a psychiatric tool (which they are excellent for). The tests are far too narrow to encompass all of human intelligence. That being said, humanity is st00pid.
since the average IQ of all humanity is 100 (that's what represents a score of a 100, it just means being in the middle in terms of intellect) i would then put it as average
you are starting from the premise that humanity as a group is intelligent which is technically wrong.
just remember a person is smart, but people are stupid. Enough said ... and a large reason I stopped watching the News ..
Compared to whom? I don't think the IQ test is applicable to everyone but if we are talking about the stats, I believe we are at least Average. But we're probably Smart compared to animals and Ignorant in comparison to other intelligent life forms in this vast universe.. In conclusion, those IQ tests don't really matter.
There are various forms of intelligence. The initial IQ tests were created to help distinguish mental capabilities of children to help reform and better the French education system btw, and the man who created the IQ test stated that these tests were inadequate measures of various things such emotional intelligence. In other words, people can be somewhat smart in some regards and completely stupid in others. Does it make you feel better to know of that one jerk from 8th grade who got 100 on the algebra test without trying is stupid in other ways? (lol)
The IQ test places individuals on a scale in comparison to other human beings. The average score on the test is literally supposed to be what the average person is intended to score on the test. The main purpose of the test is to calculate your intelligence in comparison to the average person.
Good point! I forgot about that! So obviously a system made with a humancentric scale would obviously put humans as the average!
I would say individual humans are average to intelligent but humanity as a whole can (and often are) about as smart as flock of sheep. herd mentality is terrifying.
Alien beings looking at Earth: "If you can't sort out the basics like learning to take care of your planet or resisting the urge to exterminate yourselves with war... well then, to be blunt, we don't want you hanging out with us."
One flaw in that, it assumes the average doesn't change over time. I feel like people currently would score lower than the historical average. They have to. If this was a normal level of stupidity humans would have gone extinct already.
Merely one of the downsides of an increasing population. More people means more opportunities for nature to invent a better idiot.
No that's just guidelines for polite virtue signalling from egalitarians. Even i probably scores below average because the matter of problem within the test that i might not familiar with. The point is IQ test can measure someone academic potential but is really unreliable for measure of intellect.
IQ tests are updated periodically to account for the Flynn effect. If anything, populations have gotten more intelligent over the past few decades due to better overall education and standards of living. edit: I agree they certainly don’t measure intelligence in its entirety - but rather predict academic performance. This was poorly worded on my part.
Er... I think you missed the point. 100 points is the guideline for average intelligence, all the scores are scaled up or down to it. No matter your test score, it will be adjusted to fit 50% above and 50% below. Have you taken courses that only allow X percent of the students to pass? This is one of them, so your actual score won't matter, just your "class standing".
