For some reason in https://www.novelupdates.com/series...orlds-darkness-so-i-made-one-in-exasperation/ the MC or author (i forgot) said it's dangerous to pull out a katana if you don't have experience of doing it.
Well, you need to be a total noob to make it wrong (leave your thumb right above the blade) . Sheathing it is actually more dangerous - so many holes in the arms of the wannabe YouTube-learned iaido fans.
... Well, handling any weapon without experience can be self-injuring , for guns being misfire of various sorts and for bladed weapons of any sorts with sheaths pulling them out or trying to insert them back in can injure the wielder. That being said, if they're trying to do it quickly without enough experience or skill, they increase the chance of self-injury.
Duh, its a sword. As said by Tanya Degurachaff, everything that may go wrong will go wrong (or something like that). Well its the same with every weapon. Without knowledge of how to wield weapons will definitely harm you, one way or the other.
If you don't have experience ( and is careless with any sharp tool, kanan included) the chances of you cutting your self is definetly higher. Isn't that common sense....
Indeed, though my experience was w/ a mandau i/o katana Pulled it out while having my finger on the crooked part of the sheath, not knowing that the blade is wider at the front/middle & definitely wider than the crook Fortunately it was not seriously sharpened & not an old/antique one (those are sometimes either rusty, coated w/ poison or both) Picture of a mandau & it's sheath
you have to be inattentive/unfocused or just plain dumb to hurt yourself by just unsheathing any kind of sword
Depends on how you are pulling it out. If you try to do a technique, then it can be dangerous. People have pierced and sliced themselves by trying to quickly draw a sword. If you just slowly draw, however, it and pay attention, then its fairly safe.
My middle brother nearly took off his pinky pulling out a katana when he was a teen. So, yes, it's dangerous if you don't know how to handle it properly. Idiot never got full use back even after surgery, so if you are messing around with swords, please be very careful.
Thanks. Now im imagining the cartoon from Disney Channel, Milo Murphy's Law. If you are trying to do quick draw on the katana then yes it will be dangerous. Did try it once on a "Itak" or machete and i almost cut my thigh from the upward swing.(i was doing the low stance quick draw based from Samurai X, got my footing wrong)
Well, kitchen knives are dangerous in the hands of the inexperienced and the children, and kitchen knives are made to cut food, so what would much sharper and bigger tools made with the intention of taking lives do? if they are not dangerous than what is?
Not really. Anyone with a brain can pull out a katana. Holding a katana right can be a problem to most people, but just pulling it out is not a big deal. The bigger problem is is putting it back in. Unlike a straight blade, katanas are curved, so it could bounce out if the angle is wrong. Add to the fact that katana is sharper, it's more likely that you're gonna hurt your hands. Yes, Ai-chan is sure that someone would say that longswords are sharp too, this is not saying anything about 'superior nippon steel'. It's sharper because of its construction. Longswords are generally thicker than a katana. Katanas are generally only thick at the back side of the blade, and the blade side are generally very thin, allowing a much thinner cutting edge with translates into sharpness. Unlike a katana, you can press your hand against edge of a longsword as long as you don't run it up and down the length. The downside to this construction is its cutting edge's durability. It is similar to obsidian, which has the thinnest edge and can cut better than anything, but is very brittle because it's only a single micron thick.
It depends on the wielder's skill and familiarity with the weapon, so most of the times I'd say yep, at least without prehemptive practice.
Well, if your partner consents to it, it is not dangerous to pull your katana out of its' pants sheath!
