So mostly just a guess about the husband's downfall, but I think the issue is that he doesn't realize he's a joke.

Like, its very clear in just the first few chapters that he's shallow, a bit dim, and incredibly self involved. He sadly is also fairly good looking, very enthusiastic, and has some charisma, which can mask these traits at first. I'm sure in his head he wasn't even lying about the great tragic romance of being separated from his beloved wife and child. Because to him his wife is a construct he's made up entirely in his head rather than a person. He's absolutely head-over-heels in love with the gentle, noble beauty that he thinks his wife should be. Unfortunately he's actually married to a person, and she's got enough backbone that even his powers of self delusion can't convince himself these two figures are the same. Which puts him in a bind when people start asking about his wife and he needs to present a human to the masses. He's better at convincing himself that he's a great dad, but that's because the kid's shy and not going to contradict the fantasy. He treats the kid as a prop and doesn't interact with him enough to see any discrepancies.

A bit more subtly though, its clear that he's overestimating his own place in noble society as well. He insists the MC take lessons, but its less because he recognizes that noble society will unfairly judge a person for adhering to the sometimes overly convoluted and very strict social guidelines, and more because he thinks that will make her better match his fantasy ideal wife. Obviously he didn't need those same lessons, because he's just that awesome. He playacts being noble, but its clearly a monkey-see-monkey-do scenario without any real understanding of etiquette. If he had understood anything he wouldn't have made the massive foux pas of intruding on a ladies' tea (even as his wife's escort, the correct procedure would be to make himself as unobtrusive as possible before making a quick exit). Even with the clothes, yes the family needs a wardrobe update but he fails to recognize the difference between quality and tackiness. Showing up to events overdressed draws just as much derision and being underdressed. Chapter 18 of the manga even points out that there's more to getting into noble society than having money and looking expensive.

So in the Husband's head he's just finally around people who recognize his specialness. In reality, at best they're amused by the dancing monkey. We see so much side eye in various panels where he thinks he's nailing it while whatever noble he's playing to is clearly condescending. He's never disabused of his delusions because they're for the most part laughing or sneering behind their fans rather than calling out his errors directly. And when it comes to lesser errors its not that big a deal, because a certain amount of vulgarity is expected in a social climber. But its only a matter of time until he does something deeply insulting, and he'll be just shocked on learning that he never held any actual value to them.

 

So Theodore really fell for a married woman with a child so soon?

Gotta appreciate the fact that our mother bear/strong temperamental no nonsense self-reflective-aware FL Shirley is able to hit her trash husband and the pubescent ML
In many Fantasy Romance Mangas/Manwhas the FL is never allowed to harm the half-god ML or any big man physically, even if she has power. The ML on the other hand can always grab her wrist very hard or she gets (almost) hit by an antagonist.
So it is very refreshing to see how Shirley the fearless commoner from land/the boonies is able to defend herself + kick the asses of her trash (ex-)husband and the manchild ML.

Sounds like the FL has no intention to get married but it's also an open ending as to whether she starts to date the ml or not because it iink she likes him based on the comments

What do you think about Shirley's ML Theodore Carlton/Teddy?
I get the impression that he is flirtatious and eccentric but also kinda pushy, shameless and childish.

There is also the well-meant neighbour aunt/grandma Linda who talked out Shirley's abused Mother to leave her shit violent drunk Husband and pretty much condemned her into a catatonic miserable state due to her conservative beliefs in chapter 27...
I really get the urge to slap such a person and humiliate her.

I love this manhwa. Shirley is freaking cool. Finally, an FL who doesn't easily blush around the ML. Rather, it's the opposite. So refreshing and cute. Even the ML's mom is super cool.

Apart her dumbass ex,I hate the Linda. She reminds me those actual old ladies who won't shut and mind their own business. She's like "a woman can't be happy without a man", but where's her man? She see seems to live fine alone with her own house. So annoying and hypocritical. Just cut her off already. She doesn't even do anything apart from raising blood pressure. Piss off Linda.

I much rather prefer the ML's mom. I need more of ML's mom.

 

About that, we don't know. I think she is living alone and feel miserable and want just to help MC to not end up like her. But yeah, she is annoying.
