My instructor wants me to build an arduino based project that will detect the quality of the air. He wants my model to be able to show the percentage/concentration of green house gases presented in the polluted air and also wants it to show whether it is safe to breath the air by means of bulbs flashing red or green light. It would be of great help if I can get some suggestions like what components I should use, in what language I should write the code as well as whether it should be IOT based or not. It is my first ever big(for me) project so any additional advice will be of great help.

Ain't it simple at least 3 sensors Temp, Humid, and CO2, for me using C better control the hardware, ram ..
If I'm not mistaken, asking for help with school projects and homework is a good way to get your thread locked. As @Liyus said, a quick Google search is all you need for this.
