Hello! I've been reading different posts around the forum and everyone seems to mention that qidian novels get taken down? Do the translation sites get shut down? Is it worth it to start translating one?

I'm looking for a new project to add some variety and keep stumbling upon Qidian novels. Don't want any legal trouble... :blobpoliceangry::blobflag:

    Thanks!

Yes they do and in a very bad way from what i have heard. I think it would be better if you find some good untranslated novel or a novel which has not been translated for more than 3 months

Don't pick up any QI novel. It is a legal shit show that has real consequences.

Look in the dropped novels,or in requests area. Many novels waiting to be translated.

They won't nagging at you when your translation is still unpopular, but once you have many stable reader they will give you 2 choice, join them or get crushed :blobspearpeek:

Try looking for Chinese novels you like on jjwxc, IReader, 17k, zongheng?

Edited to strike through zongheng since they also have an English website.

    Yup, they're other Chinese publishers.

Also, qdmm.com, chuangshi.qq.com, yunqi.qq.com, xxsy.net, hongxiu.com, readnovel.com, and xs8.cn are direct subsidiaries of Qidian, and Qidian/Webnovel has DCMA popular translations that were published on those sites. For example, Genius Doctor: Black Belly Miss after the translator had translated hundreds of chapters.

Zongheng's english side is Tapread. If they have had a lot of hate like Qidian/Webnovel I must of missed it. I only noticed some Qidian trolls try to stir up stuff when it launched. If you plan to translate some Zongheng stuff maybe comb through the forums here to see if they are assholes or not first.

Yes, you're very likely to receive a notice requesting you cease translating a Qidian novel. Alternatively, if your translation gains popularity, they may offer to buy it from you or hire you to continue translating it for them. ... Or you may find them suddenly releasing translations of the same novel at a much higher pace with objectively inferior quality, as a sort of "screw you, guy".

If you're worried about actual legal action, then to the best of my knowledge no fan translator has ever faced a lawsuit. Just stop when they tell you to and they have no reason to pursue it further. Suing you would be a waste of their time and money - if it's even doable at all, given that for all we know, you live in a country that would tell them to fuck off.

My recommendation is that you only translate a novel from Qidian if you wish to work for them or just won't mind too much when you have to drop it and find a new project. E.g. if you just want to draw attention to it.

As far as I know, those sites, right at the release of Qidian's Webnovel apps, got DMFA notice & most of them decide to just delete the translation from their web

I'm seeing the tapreader and looks they are like acting kind of similar to Qidian (maybe just a conservative play, just doing what already is working) but i'm not sure if they did a contract with WuxiaWorld or something, probably so.

These days, you should be doing your homework to see if the site has an English sister site. If they do, it's not worth taking the risk if you ask me.
