Is it just me, or are the vast majority of manhuas are just repetitive plots, where MC gets something OP with him, he improves, arrogant young master (AYM) appears, provokes and fight him, MC killed AYM, MC meets beautiful girl, beautiful girl attracts the attention of AYM, MC kills AYM, Girl disappears into a higher region, MC travels to higher region, wash rinse repeat...

No, Chinese manhua are not repetitive, it's only the ones that reach you that are repetitive remember the manhua industry is actually VERY large, a large portion of manhua aren't even translated yet(fan translations and official translations included). Therefore it's not really a good idea to say a "majority" of manhua are repetitive when even the majority of manhua are not even translated yet. Even among the translated ones there are good ones if you know where to look. a few tips might include staying away from anything with the "manhua artstyle" and anything that might come from ac.qq(because nothing there i good)

    Edit:
maybe try reading Peach and the Book of the Last Days as a good starting place yw

It's because a lot of CNs in china are
Not that there aren't any CNs that don't follow this formula. In fact, most of them probably don't, it's just that many CN cultivation authors are particularly fond of fast-improving main characters, harems, face slapping, and brainless cannon fodders, hence the formula. Plus a lot of them are 1000+ chapters long...

If you look for it, there are plenty of manhuas that aren't like that, you probably just need to look less at cultivation manhua XD. Don't worry, there are also cultivation CNs that don't follow that formula, but they're kinda harder to find.

It's just that CN novels can be written by anyone, so the whole CN novel community is a tropefest XD. Just look at the amount of shoujo/josei manhua with "CEO" in it. And probably 20% of cultivation novels have a synonym of invincible/peerless in the title, and 30% have some variation of lord, king, emperor, or sovereign, referring to the MC of course. (edit: forgot about 'god' woops, those are numerous as well)
There are plenty of standouts, they're just buried under the truly ridiculous amount of copy-paste novels.
