    Maybe mini rant.

Which style of translation pisses you off? For me, it's when Japanese honorifics/terminology are used in Chinese works. E.g Xian Ni when the translator keeps on referring to Suzaku (translate it to Vermilion Bird or leave it in pinyin as Zhu Que dammit!) & Spirit Blade Mountain manhua using Japanese honorifics (WTF?). I'm grateful that they are being translated but that's just jarring.

I can take it when translators leave titles in pinyin given that those usually involve social hierarchies that don't translate to English well, that's what glossaries are for!

So, what is it for you guys?

You do know Chinese fans translate Japanese novels too, right? It's not much of a stretch for them to have Japanese-specific words then, such as I recall they do for loli.

You do know Suzaku sounds a lot better than writing Vermillion Bird or Phoenix all the time ye?

Also, there are Japanese words in the official Chinese letter system too? Much like Kanji is originally from Chinese.

Example; People and Republic in Chinese comes from Japanese Kanji.

Speak for yourself, I personally like Vermillion Bird or Phoenix more than Suzaku.

As for the question, the translation for World of Cultivation is pretty frustrating for me, I stopped around chapter 200 and couldn't find the heart to pick it up again.

Excessive TLor notes in the middle of a chapter. Put it at the end of the chapter...not in the middle orz. I dropped a novel once because the Translator would put 7-8 TL notes every chapter. Its like trying to read a book quietly, but someone keeps calling you to do something for them.

This is mildly annoying as well. When thechapter has the raws as well as the part thats translated.

I don't see why it is a problem? I mean, you can neither read Chinese nor Jap ...
Does it really matter if words are used from one language in another's translation?
Just a rant, truly. Why don't u just read, enjoy and go home?

I absolutely abhor localization and cutting out parts or changing parts of the chapter just because : they don't like it or "it adds nothing to the story, so it's fine" .

The style that go on a long hiatus between each chapter. I don't really care if they put romanji, personal thoughts and etc since as a leecher, I have no rights to point out anything. I'm just thankful if they post another chapter

    Excessive TL Notes.

Especially ones discussing the chapter, not suplmenting an error/translation obscurities.

Oh and cutting a chapter in parts. Fuck you lazy fucking assholes.

    Writing dialogue in these fucking things ==> [ ] or { } or < >

I don't care how necessary it is (it's usually not), it bothers me regardless. Use fucking quotes.

As a side note, it makes no sense to me why a good bunch of authors, especially JP ones, seemingly never use dialogue tags. It baffles me. I can't understand why they would expect readers to know who's talking in a room of five, or replace details in expression and tone for some horrid, melodramatic dialogue. Is it lost in translation? If it has something to do with the way the language or culture is, I'd love to know.

I second the Vermillion bird thing. Unless there is absolutely no English equivalent, I find it idiotic to use a JP term in a CN novel because it "sounds cool".

As for what pisses me off: TL Notes that have no use whatsoever. I mean, you wanna make a joke, then USE A GODDAMN FOOTNOTE.

When you click on the "next" thinking it's the next chapter but in fact it's a rant of the translator saying that the world is invaded by aliens/exams and he can't translate for the next 74months

yes. most of the time it was lost in translation. you have watch anime haven't you? you should've notice that japanese has lots of speaking style, honorifics, end-sentences, and word combinations (whether their own language, or foreign ones). japanese writing can show this, while english can't. and not all translators are capable of bringing this out. and most of the time, its not even their fault. it gets worse when some of the characters uses a rural dialect, or some part of it
