i thought kobolds were those kind of dog humanoids (from novels), but now i'm confused because in my language kobold is some kind of goblin. all i can find on google about kobolds are some kind of dragon humanoids from some game and wikipedia says it's some kind of gnome, dwarf, or goblin like thing too. so are kobolds those dog humanoid or goblins?
It actually depend on the author and where they take their inspiration from. Some people make kobolds goblins, others make em the dog thingy. Some see them as spirits (spirits that take different forms based on elements or location). Take a look at the wiki page. I'm sure it'll help you.
Just think of Kobolds like this. They're so ugly people can't tell whether they're dogs or lizards. For people who think they are like goblins or orcs, they're just writing with no background information. They're humanoid. They're biped. They can look like a furry lizard or a dog-type humanoid.
i usually think of them as small very ugly humanoid dogs with very basic intelligence (sometimes they uses daggers and armors)
Doghead-goblin is the usual look. They either have fur, scales or leathery skin. In the case of leathery skin they usually have furry dog heads. They always have snouts regardless though.
