Same reason why some boys find Yandere's attractive, the world may never know the answers to these questions.
I think it also depends on age. I used to also like the “cool and mysterious “ guys when I was a teen. Then I liked “sweet/ romantic/understanding” guys. Then I liked “have a job/passion/goal” guys. Now (when I’m not in a “I’m a loner leave me alone “ state) I like “stable” guys. I guess it depends on where in her life (as well as how mentally mature) the girl in question is.
I'm sure there's some studies on how stretching back to caveman days women are attracted to strong, confident, powerful men because they can bring in food and protect them/their child to ensure the spread of their genetic line and this instinct left in the lizard brain part of us still survives. Also, never underestimate womens love of trying to change someone when they get in a relationship because of the constant bombardment they get in Lifetime movies (or shoujo/josei for us weebs) of women getting in relationships with strong confident aggressive angry men that they eventually turn into a proper dream man. Also this has changed in recent generations but in the past women played a submissive role and most women were born and raised into this ideology and looked for a dominant/strong/aggressive man. So TL;DR genetics/how they were raised and how their family acted/media content aimed towards them/societal expectations and structures/etc lead to it.
Yes yes yes. I was raised in a society where women were submissive....then I rose, like a vengeful Cthulhu to seduce and conquer with each glance.
The girl's less of a hassle and more straightforward. No second guessing and no playing the silent game.
In my opinion, it is similar to suspension bridge effect and stockholm syndrome. Dark character inflict fear to female gender the most with how their body automatically realizes that their physical strength is weaker than the other and the danger they are in. This leads them to feel sudden increase in heartrate and confuse it with love. Or more like love does not exist, since ancient time people prefer those who are stronger to protect themselves from animal and let them to survive longer. Another possibility is how novels and books influence people's life too much. Just like how girl expect bad guy would change himself for her or showing his softest part to them .... as if the life is like a novel/fairy tale. I'm pretty sure girl at least dreamed or imagined once that they are a princess in the story. Normally, girls would not choose a nice guy over a bad guy simply because they took the nice guy's kindness for granted over time and got used to it or expect kindness given freely like that from the other person for the rest of their lives. Which would be unfair for the other person since loving someone, you have to put equal amount of effort for each other to be in a great relationship. Anyway, I'll stop here. I don't know why I'm even thinking about this subject so deeply. Sorry if it offend anyone, I don't believe in love so ... the comment is kind of depressing
Oh I likes me a nice guy...adventures with them is so fine too. *GRINS* I'm not interested in being scared....I don't like that. I like a partner in crime vs Ted Bundy.
If we are talking about wish fulfillment novels, isn't it because that dark guy is going to be cruel to everyone else while nice to them? Aka, less likely to cheat because they are cold to everyone but their 1 true love. There is also the whole hard to get thing. Would people care about gold if everything was made of gold and it was as common as aluminum? But of course no one wants to be in a relationship with someone who is cold to them all the time (not to be confused with being tsundere), so they make them multiple layers where once you get past the cold layer you find them being sweet deep down.
I like bright guys lol Like non OP @WeiYing Dark guys are just sexy... They don't mean anything more than that to me...
